Just curious, but where did the figure 2% come from? Being an "anonymous" site it is hard to know who is from where, for all we know 350 of the non posters might never have been to Fanda or a part of NTM, because there is no obligation to say anything about ones past or alliances. Never know, they might all be good Tribers wanting to keep up to date with developments.
Of course it is no secret where posters such as Raz, Paul, myself and a few others fit into the equation, it's in our posts.

Also what should be taken into account is the amount of behind the scenes communication that goes on. i.e. members who have not posted sometimes contact me for various reasons. Their needs are different than mine, whereas I find therapeutic value in rambling on day after day, some want to talk privately about their own situations. I will always respect their privacy and do not judge them for not posting publically.

So now some bright cookie is going to say "But Bemused you have made claims like 42% (appx) of NTM missionaries aren't even on the field, how can you make such outlandish claims?". And of course you would be right to ask how I make such claims. The difference is NTM lists their staff (with nice pics :D ) and where they are, so it is simply a matter of dividing those listed as being in say the U.S. and dividing it by the total (and wallagh there is the percentage, add in those who are converting brown gold in Canada, NZ, Germany e.t.c. and the figure is closer to 50%)

Fanda Eagles is like a democracy with benefits. Anyone can join (spammers dealt with promptly I see) and anyone can post. Anyone can contact the likes of yours truly and share, dispute, praise (yes please), ponder, muse or respond. And I even reply to almost every message, as I'm sure others do, which is much better than "democratically" elected politicians who reply only when it suits them, or they think they can get a vote or cash  .

Ooops I'm rambling off the subject.
So the question is, where does the figure of 2% come from?

Hmmmm, I think the percentage of abusers was far higher than 2%. As previously stated Gary Earl is the 6th confirmed sex offender from my relatively short time at Numonohi. Numonohi was not a big base, somewhere between 20 and 25 houses. And that is just sex offenders, then there are the physical abusers e.t.c.

And each paedophile generally has far more than one or two victims, they are predators with appetites.

I would like to clarify what I meant when I wrote yesterday:
It is very, very common that a fraction of survivors from communities that have been characterized by systemic child abuse and neglect become the “voice” for the many. This changes when a ‘critical mass” of survivors join the initial few and it then it feels safe for many more to also tell their stories.

I was making reference to the fact that when Independent Investigations are established, victims/survivors who seldom, or never, talked about their abuse often report the abuse to the Independent Investigation. Many of you have probably heard about our experience 20 years ago (yes....20 years ago and look at how very little has changed in mission cultures!) when the Mamou Steering Committee was putting pressure on the C&MA to establish an Independent Commission of Inquiry (ICI). There were 5 of us, and we desperately hoped at least 20 would be willing to report abuse to the ICI. We had received push-back from some Mamou alumni, so didn't have high expectations. But about 15 had indicated they supported us, and we thought that a total of 20 would establish our claims of systemic abuse as credible. Well, a total of 80 submitted reports and/or were interviewed. That was my reference point when I was referring to when I talked about the "critical mass".

I wasn't referencing that survivors should post their stories on forums. I actually generally don't post often on social media sites, including forums - because I find it so difficult to post - and would never intentionally imply others should post! Even after all these years, posting feels very vulnerable for me because of some childhood communication issues I had as a child. The exception is when I am incensed by what someone has said (the post I responded to yesterday); or when someone nudges me (that would be Raz, most often).

Enough said....I just wanted to clarify!

This is such a great blogpost!

As I read it, many people I love came to my mind. People I think would relate to the process this writer describes.

People in my own family.

Maybe you.
