What I found interesting in this excellent video and it is something that Mrs Bemused raised a while back is how do female victims feel when they meet a male who is saying all the things they heard as a child victim, or using language and terms that are associated with the environment that abuse occured in?
I'm a male, but on this forum there is a degree of anonimity which obscurs that somewhat. Alas with my being a male does come the baggage of other males and this is not the fault of the victim, it is the residual mess left by abusers. I'm middle aged now, I don't look like the 18 year old that anyone who knew me as an MK would have seen, in fact I actually look the same age as many of the abusers were when they were commiting their evil acts, this could be a problem if we were to say meet at the upcoming conference.

I feel uncomfortable when I hear certain phrases that take me back to my past, words like "committed" and those familiar words of wisdom from scripture, used in the wrong way. And if it is like that for me, it must be tricky for others who have had far more complicated issues to face.

Just food for thought.

I hate doctors, especially the nice looking ones
I hate hospitals - even if I really need to go to one
I hate tight spaces - I freak out if I do not know where the door out is, if it works
I hate Toyota Celicas, especially WHITE ones
Paco Rabanne pour homme makes me puke

should I go on???

No, no. I got the message, you is one tough cookie and afraid of no one ;) .

I'm not scared of doctors or hospitals either, but I work in them for my sins :o
And my Toyota is grey, so I'm safe on that one.

I am terrified of public speaking, any tips on that one?

Bemused, Not much help I suppose but it is refreshing to see someone that is so good with words that can put it on paper but doesn't have to vocally scream it for the world to hear! I get more from reading than from hearing. Just think, unless you can lip read a deaf person benefits greatly from writings. Full stop.

I'm not even that good at talking about work related stuff, unless it is a small group who know very little about the subject I am a semi expert in and as this situation rarely occurs, I do very little public speaking.

On the other hand, if I'm asked to write something that will be read by many thousands, try and stop me ;) .

Maybe it is just a matter of sticking to what one is good at, or thinks one is good at :P .

For those not familiar with the term "Anglican" I think the term "Epsicopalian" or "Church of England" might be more familiar. Generally a more traditional form of service (with quite a scope of variations, ranging from almost a Catholic type Mass to guitar and drums). It would until recently have been the predominant protestant denomination in Kiwiland, although the passing on of the older generation may well have tipped the balance in favour of the more charasmatic/pentecostal denominations. Rugby still remains the religon of choice for most Kiwis, closely followed by horse racing and beer consumption. The former and the latter seem to co exist happily.

You might be on to something.

If you've seen BBC programmes like Downton Abbey, you'll see classic examples of the rich upper class "selfish gene" in action. The desire for the titles, wealth and breeding to be passed on to the next generation. It became a society where class governed everything you did and where you ended up in life. At the other end of the scale is the long running programme Coronation Street, which portrays the working and lower class, who seem to accept their place as a fate accompli.

Of course ex British colonies ditched all this class nonsense and we all live equally and happily together  .
