There are laws of God. There are laws of man. Lawyers are trained with respect to the laws of man. Ministers of the gospel are trained with respect to the laws of God (theoretically).

The actions giving rise to this blog broke both the laws of man and the laws of God.

It appears that, the actions required to protect an organization from the laws of man may inadvertantly run afoul of the laws of God. As such, certain legal advice aimed at avoidng the heat may inadvertantly stoke the fire...if you know what I mean.

Why isn't Andy using such words as reconciliation or restitution in regards to the issue of abuse, whether it is sexual or spiritual? Maybe he did and I didn't see it, sorry. Please point it out for me.

It would be far better if NTM tells us what they have in mind in terms of reconciliation and restitution. And let's give 'em a break and assume they're not in it for the money.....

I think if I was a molester I would be reading everything that ntm put out here so I could hide if they were investigating me.

I'm not sure that MK's that have been sexually abused want either reconciliation or restitution. These types of "injuries" cannot truly be restituted. I, for one, would not want reconciliation with my abusers.

I would want (1) public acknowledgment of what happened, (2) pro-active steps to mitigate the chance for future abuse with sufficient details made public, (3) a big ass official apology signed by every single member of the executive committee published publicly (in a national newspaper for example), (4) lots of retroactive terminations with enough detail made public so that all the affected persons have knowledge of them, and (5) some voluntary, public, resignations.

At the end of the day, I think what a lot of MKs and missionaries want is VALIDATION and for some good to come out of this public outcry. Actions taken in secret are not going to validate anybody or give anybody comfort that any good has come out of this.

I'm not against the liquidation of some Ozark assets for symbolic purposes or to cover certain expenses. However, with 10s of thousands of MKs and former missionaries out there, a distribution of these assets would be merely a drop in the bucket, and would not make anybody whole. I can just imagine a $142 check arriving in the mail for a 50 year old woman who was abused in the 1980's, with an apology note. Trust me, that woman would feel cheapened and abused once again.

So anyone hear anything new? I know the affected families that have come forward get different updates than the rest of us out here - but does anyone know anything since the last update in December? I'm still here. The last update went out to our Fanda Eagles email list, and then I posted it on this thread. I'm working on expanding that list to include addresses we have for any abuse survivors or family members. I'll also post updates here after I've emailed them.

We have been working on the next update regarding details on the investigation process, but since that process is still under construction, I have not been able to say much about it. None of us like the lack of information flow, but we just don't want to send out something half baked.

I usually check the blog a couple times every day on the most active threads. Still learning my way around here and trying to be unobtrusive, doing more listening than talking.
