In the movie Tequila Sunrise, the question is asked why a person feels that because they went to high school with someone, they are friends for life.
Maybe when an organization is populated by 2nd and 3rd generation leadership, the childhood memories, dynamics, friendships, animosities, continue to linger and fester. I remember the Schroeders came in with such a burst of energy. Same thing with the Kitcheners. Larry Smith...what a wonderful man of God. Ted and Jean Wright. Bob and Fay Barker.
I remember getting spanked one time for being mean to the son of our dormparents. Kerry Cater and I were being mean to him, but Kerry didn't get spanked. In fact, his brother Kenny watched me getting spanked, and laughed about it. Kerry and Kenny's father had served in the Air Force. After he died, Mrs. Cater moved to Brazil as a missionary. She lived in Porto Ferreira. Then she moved to Anápolis. Kerry was my best friend in 5th grade. And the guy we terrorized is a wonderful father and husband. He was a great goalie, excellent volleyball player, and will be celebrating 24 years of marriage in September. One time, one of Albertão's penalty kicks literally pushed him into the goal. His father helped me learn how to work and be responsible. In fact, yesterday, I used something he taught me back in 1980. After squeezing and pressing the tooth paste for three days (like Maxwell House...good to the last ooze), I remembered my little dorm wisdom from my uncle's brother: cut the empty tube open, and you'll find plenty of toothpaste left. Just wondering if Hudson stole a girlfriend. We'll laugh about it in heaven.
