The New Tribes Mission that I spent decades in is ABSOLUTELY NOTORIOUS for having this attitude.

My whole Bible School education was all about this: Listen to this lecture. I know all the answers. I will tell you what every verse in the Bible means. And the one and only way to apply it to your life.

When my husband and I got involved in translating the New Testament into a tribal language, that is when our eyes were opened to the reality that there actually was more than one way to interpret a Bible verse, and more than one way to translate it. And thus more than one way to apply it as well. It wasn't the divine encyclopedia after all. This realization changed our lives, permanently.

People tell me NTM is different now. But I remain skeptical. One reason is because I know that Dispensationalism is still taught in Bible School, and all members are expected to embrace and teach this.

Yeah. Talk about divine encyclopedia. That is exactly what dispensationalism illustrates. One way. One answer. One doctrine. One litmus test. The deal breaker.

What if we have got it all wrong? If the God that we believe in is not the correct version and we have spent our whole lives missing the whole point of God?
It has to be a strong possibility because there are so many different interpretations of God and each group thinks they are the only ones to be of the true interpretation.
It drives me nuts and it must do other peoples heads in, all this fighting and arguing about which is the true way to follow God and interpret the Bible.
I just don't want to get to the end of my life and stand before God and hear the words "well Aussie, you were on the wrong track and you wasted your life getting it wrong, but trying to convince yourself and others that you knew it all". I'd rather here "come on in Aussie, you old sinner who never quite understood it all, but did your best under the circumstances".

Yes, to me, that sounds quite a bit like, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant ..... enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Just a different, more modern translation. That's all.

Wish it was that easy. I find it really frustrating that we have to wait till after we have lived this life to find out what really was the truth, who knows we could all be wrong. I know much of what we were taught as MKs was not correct, or the motive behind it certainly wasn't, but I'm not sure if where I am now is the whole picture either, if you know what I mean.

I've come to the conclusion it is best to have a simple faith and live a good life helping others. Otherwise the head just goes round in circles.
