Probation Given for Groping Incident
Woodstock-A 41-yr-old man convicted of groping an 8-yr-old girl at his daughter's sleepover was sentenced Friday to two years of probation. The judge ordered Scott D. Morgan to pay a $1000 fine, have no contact with the girl or her family and to finish any counseling required by his probation officer.
She also sentenced him to four months in jail, but Morgan won't have to serve that time unless a judge requires it later.
Morgan could have been sentenced to probation or up to seven years in jail for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Jurors convicted him in April after the girl said Morgan rubbed her buttocks during a children's sleepover in May 2008. She said Morgan refused to let her go home after she told Morgan's wife he had touched her inappropriately. He said he rubbed only the girl's back after mistaking her for his own daugther as three girls shared a bed in a dark room.
In a prepared statement, the victim's mother remembered seeing tears run down her daughter's face as the girl told her about the abuse and explained she was afraid to go to an extracurricular event where she'd likely see Morgan again.
The girl had received counseling, but her mother fears her distrust of men will linger for years. The girl recently mentioned she is afraid at church, because she is unsure which men there might be "bad men."
"This incident may have lasted for only moments in Mr. Morgan's eyes, but it will last a lifetime for my daughter." the mother wrote.
Defense attorney Tom Loizzo said Morgan was fired from a well-paying job within day of the conviction and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Dozens of family and friends wrote letters supporting Morgan, describing him as a good father with the highest morals, Assistant State's Attorney David Johnston said.
But Johnston cautioned that child sex crimes often are committed by those who seem upstanding.
"He was not a man of highest morals the night he committed the crime...He was not a great father that night," Johnston said. "He is here to be punished for the man he was that night."

You say it's time to stop saying it's "so and so's fault". I have names in my mind, people that I personally know that are fully responsible for what happened to me. Don't you think that when an abuser sees that the blame and guilt of what he did is being shared by those he worked with, those who were his leaders, those he didn't even know except as NTM co-workers. Don't you think that would make him feel a lot less guilty, a lot less responsible for his own personal actions? It's crazy talk to say that the guilt and shame are those to be shared by the organization as a whole. The realm of influence is not so far reaching. He no longer has to take personal ownership of his actions, it's now somebody else's fault. He now is a victim?
Who is responsible in your mind? Name names -- I want to here you name names. We are each responsible for what we say and do in this life. Satan is the king of lies. He IS the king of blame-shifting. That's what it sounds like everyone is trying to do ...there's this inconspicuous cloud of BLAME over NTM without people like you being able to name names.... it's mind boggling to me! When you narrow it down to individuals and the actions and choices that they made then you can start to work through the process of healing, restoration and you can find answers for the victims.
....anything less than that is like spewing fire into a crowd of unsuspecting onlookers...as the guilty ones slips into the shadows... all the attention is instead turned to the ones who happened to be standing a little too close to the sidelines. That is real blame-shifting....and loss of focus. Didn't you just see not only did the abuser get away -- he's standing and watching and rubbing his hands together in satifaction as he see's the mess of turmoil and disunity he created --- all to take the focus away from him, what he did -- and to instead create a different situation and crisis that will keep him out of the lime-light. Foolishness! But again he was successful.

Yes, but at the same time it sounds as if you would like to pretend that NTM is clean in this whole situation. By saying that it was only a few individuals who did these vile things and not looking at the atmosphere that NTM as an organization put into place and created you are giving them an out. Letting them throw a few people under the bus, fire a few, hopefully call the authorities on a few (although we have not seen that yet) but then be able to sit back and rub their hands together, breathe a sigh of relief, and go on with life. NTM is not a living, breathing thing. It is not the gospel, it is not God's word. Satan is not rubbing his hands together right now because of our stories, he is screaming because of our stories. Can anyone reallly sit and tell me that Satan has not loved what NTM has been doing all these years? Go back and read some posts from the other MKs, read the ones who will not enter a church, will not believe in God, who cannot even tell their children about God because of what they learned growing up. Oh Satan LOVES that. I am sure he stood in front of God's thrown and said "Your missionaries may be getting X amount of lost souls to hear about You, but look at how many children I am taking from them and You" NTM is made up of people. People. The people you want to name, go ahead and name them, they should be held accountable for what they did to you, they should take blame for any sin. NTM should as well take full blame for the atmosphere of abuse it set up by the PEOPLE running the show. God will not lose any ground here, His Word will continue to reach the world, just ask Gene Long who is a missionary today without the backing of NTM. God is not shaking and cowering right now because of all of this, Satan is.[/quote]
