Fellow parents! We MUST listen to our children!!! To be that dismissive about an adult MK's attempt to communicate with a parent just appalls me!

What do you think the God you've given your life to serve is going to say to you someday about your throw-away mentality toward your own children??? They are the most miraculous earthly gift He has given you! He trusted you to raise them with unconditional love that mirrors His own!

I am so livid over this issue I really can't even find the right words.

MK, if your parent has responded to you this way when you tried to communicate with them about your past, all I can say is: That is WRONG. That is NOT how it is supposed to be.

And I am so, so sorry.

I think this is the attitude of most NTM households. It certainly is with my parents...if they ignore it, then it never happened. They cut me off, won't listen and then tell me not to talk about it. I guess they don't want their high thoughts of NTM to change and they don't want to feel guilty. I don't know, But it sure doesn't help me unload the bad memories of my past and of the unloving and negative environment I was raised in. A terrible, unloving, trouble, ugly child that no one wanted.

We hear you and listen to you, dbarney.
I know you would rather have your own family hear and listen.
But I am thankful for the amount of understanding there is here.
You can say whatever you want to and there are many who "get it."

I started this thread in 2011. The great silence from parents has continued since then.

It has been suggested that we start a thread here on FE for parents. I will try resurrecting this thread, and see if any parents are ready to speak up in 2013.

Parents! Please! We need you!

It is so sad. I am sure there are many parents out there who are hurting. Maybe not knowing what to do. Relationships are broken. Don't give up parents tell your kids you are sorry and ask for their story. Do it gently they so much want you to put out the effort to reach them in their hurt. Come with only questions on how they think and feel. Don't defend yourself. Even though I as a MK know you have reasons for what you did, admit your wrong not defend it. Even as adults I am 70 I will always be my parents child and want their parent acceptance of me just as I am. Will you do that for your kids?

Alas conversely there are parents who also hurt because they desperately do not want any of this scandal to see the light of day. They will lie and run around telling anyone who will listen "they don't keep in contact with us anymore, they must have a problem . . ."

Of course the gullible will listen to the half truths and lies, but eventually the truth has a habit of leaking out and the little hole in the dam gets bigger and bigger.

Genetically we will always be our parents children. Any more than that in these circumstances, needs to be earned.
