I just read through a a prayer letter (e-mail) from an NTM-East Brazil leader whose name has been mentioned in some of your posts, Demos.

I searched for some reference to the ongoing IHART investigation into the abuse of children of missionaries on his field of service. The abuse of children he has known. The abuse of the children of parents who were (are?) his co-workers and friends.

This is the only thing I could find, that may be a cryptic reference to IHART's inquiries concerning what this field leader knew, and what he did about the information he knew:

" ...as always, the enemy of souls continues to use different people and organizations to raise obstacles in his attempt to thwart God’s purposes and people."

Ummm ... I wonder if he's referring to you, Demos. And to me.

If New Tribes Mission, which has employed pedophiles and then attempted to cover up the abuse at the highest levels of administration, refers to anyone posting here as being used by the "enemy of souls", take it as a compliment.

If society today were in charge of punishing Achan, an NTM pedophile, and an NTM executive who suggested destroying evidence regarding the sexual abuse of children, which of the three would receive the harshest sentence?

Achan and his family were stoned to death for what today wouldn't even be a crime from a criminal code perspective.
Ananias and Saphira lost their lives over a "white lie" (in the age of grace).
NTM either doesn't believe the Bible or considers children chattel property.
Maybe both.

Jesus wasn't worried about power, saving face, his reputation, money, what "religious leaders" might think.


New Tribes: you should do everything in your power to compensate the victims of the pedophiles you employed. But you will never repay them for the permanent anguish and torture which they suffer.

But it would be neat if you would lay aside your goal of reaching lost tribes (cue the "enemy of souls" comments from NTM Pharisees), and focused on the children who bore the brunt of your ministry. In this world of madmen with nuclear weapons, of cynical politicians, of struggling families, of lonely people, do the world a favor, drop your guard, quit trying to protect the reputation of the whited sepulchers at your Sanford headquarters and NTM Homes. You may lose everything and some may go to jail, but if you truly believe the Bible you taught us......what would your Master tell you to do? Do you truly serve God, or are you more worried about preserving the source of your mammon?

To use an illustration. I worked in cardiology for several decades, which meant seeing people who needed a good lesson on improving their lifestyle. So imagine Bemused discussing poor lifestyle habits with a patient who has just had a heart attack, with a fag hanging out of his mouth, booze on his breath and weighing 400lbs.
It doesn't do much for my professional credibility and the message of cardiac salvation is distorted by what the patient sees in front of them an overweight, smoking, boozing slob.
And so to with any mission that has major defects within, the credibility is totally shot and will be until the act is cleaned up.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering, I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't weigh 400lbs, but I do ride a bike with a dog on the back and take aforementioned hound running, which is a good advertisement for Cardiac Salvation. Perhaps I am practising what I preach.
