marie, I call it the balance theory. Churches, pastors, people in general think these mission organisations do so much good that the good outweighs the bad. This has to be the case otherwise they would cry out for these mission organisations to cease to exist. Full stop.

The pastors I've been in contact with are far more concerned about what consenting adults are up to in their private bedrooms, than to inform their flocks what their brothers are doing with little boys and girls in foreign fields. And so the flocks remain naive and keep supporting missions with dubious pasts.

Cigarette packets come with health warnings. There are seat belts in cars. But where is the safety warnings about missions who want to "look" after kids with dormparents and teachers as perverted as the ones we knew?

We all know that smoking kills and seat belts save lives, but why do pastors not want to inform their congregations, even when they've seen all the evidence.

My theory on why hard core/fundamentalist (don't know what else to call them) Christians want to know what consenting adults do in their own bedrooms - because if they can brand anyone a sinner or fornicator they will. It means they can totally discount anything and everything that person might say, believe or have experienced. I hear my parents do it regulary. I have often wondered why this preoccupation with sex. They don't seem to worry about lots of other sorts of "sins". Feel free to disagree.

Totally agree. If you tear down someone elses reputation it lifts your own (the teeter tooter effect), therefore if you tear down as many people as you can, you are left as the only credible moral alternative.

Oh one interesting sideline. Graham Capill led a church my father went to. My father much admired his preaching, for he was on the same wavelength. Strangely the name Graham Capill has not been mentioned for many years. Anyone got any clues why?
