Unfortunately the whole sorry mess is sad.
It should never have happened, the first paedophile should have been mades such an example of that no one in their right mind ever tried any offence ever again. But that never happened, so we end up with the mess we have now, decades of hurt, abuse, wrecked lives, complicated by layers of lies and cover ups, while the perpetrators of the crimes are either dead or wandering around having never seen the inside of a jail.

The positive side of this is now we know that each of us was not just the poor unlucky only victim and we can band together to put pressure on the right places to make an effective difference both for ourselves, those who cannot speak for themselves and future generations.

There are those who gamble with their futures in denying that offences occured, but the tide of public opinion is turning, questions are being asked and scrutiny of many organisations is being demanded. In all this mess, all we have to do is tell the truth and that is much easier than maintaining a lie.

We were innocent kids and to many of us had serious detrimental effects on our lives because of this. For many of us the sadness will be a lot less intense when justice is served and for some of us it will be a very good reason to celebrate not commiserate. There will be no tears in heaven apparently and I hope there will be a lot less sadness for those who do not deserve it here on earth in the interim, by working throught this sad mess.

I have been encouraged by Bemused to post this story. It has to do with the idea that the MKs who have been abused should "just get over it."

Recently, I attended a Josh McDowell workshop/seminar for youth workers. During one of the Q & A sessions, a young lady asked Dr. McDowell this question: "How do I help my friend, who has been sexually abused, to get over it?" I am sure the majority of those attended were just as shocked by his response as was I.

Dr. McDowell's response was something like this, "You don't ever get over it." I was sexually molested as a boy from the age 11 on. My father was an alcoholic, my mother an obese woman who seldom went out of the house, and the farm hand molested me. When I went out to the barn to do my chores, the farm hand would come up and start rubbing me on the shoulder. That is how it started. To this day, I cannot have a pastor or pastors put their hands on me to pray for me as I go out."

This comes from a man 70 years old, in the ministry for almost 50 years, is the author of tons of books, has preached to more youth than any other person living, and documents his abuse in the film about his coming to faith in Christ, his calling and the early years of his ministry.

For those out there listening, I repeat HIS WORDS: "You don't ever get over it!" So, to those in positions of leadership in NTM, regardless of your level of leadership, "Get over it!" These young people, and some not so young, need justice from you. Get over your lethargy! Get over hiding behind your lawyers! Get over the blame game! Get over protecting the pedafiles!

Bruised but Not Broken: wow, thank you for sharing that. That is a startling and impactful story. Josh McDowell is well known and respected by many. I had no idea that his life story included being sexually molested.

Everything he said - and you said - is so tragically true. You never do get over it.

I hope many will read your post and internalize what you have shared. This truth needs to guide our response to victims and their requests for validation and justice.
