Hmm ... you are keenly observant, for a bird that doesn't fly.



(I haven't used that one in a while, just thought I'd re-cycle it.)

Ah, that is because a Kiwi has a long beak and is nocturnal. It spends it's life scooting in the undergrowth, probing the ground for bugs.

Interestingly the Australian national bird is an "Emu". When you google it, notice the size of it, the length of it's neck and it's funny beady eyes with a short beak inbetween. I leave the reader to draw their own conclusions .

Of course the Bald Eagle is a magnificent bird .

Poor Emu, they can't help it. We had quite a few live up the road from us but are gone now. Thanks for explaining the clock times that are posted connecting them to regions of the world. I tried to figure it out but my brain didn't quite catch up. Full stop.

The Emu is related to the Ostrich. The Ostrich is renown for putting it's head in the sand. Therefore anyone making the assumption that the Emu also puts its head in the sand, would quite probably be correct.

The Kiwi is also unique in that the male of the species sits on the egg. I purely drop this into the coversation at Mrs Bemused's requests who has just reminded me that the supper needs to be cooked, the house vacuumed . . .

In search of grubs and prey
Pokes when all others
