Child sexual abuse is a large problem that has occured in many schools.
The difference between a boarding school like NTM and a secular school is that the bar was set much higher. Remember those long lectures of the evils of fornication, of touching a member of the opposite gender e.t.c. Remember the lectures and punishment if one did engage in such activities. But then what we found out is that those who enforced such rigid control, did not abide by their own rules. Some of it reads like an orgy in a convent, more do what I say, not do what I do. And it wasn't so much as, "oops look the other way" as "cover it up, because it never happened". The other difference I suspect is that those who we should have looked up to, not only helped themselves to our bodies, but were hell bent on taking our minds too. The obsession was with power, the power to control others. But then look at the whole reason our parents were where they were. Technically it was to "share" the gospel, but in my sojourn through the missionary experience it wasn't so much "share" as "shove" it upon others. If you have something truly wonderful, then it is easy to share. If you've made a complete mess or farce of it, then no one will want to share it, therefore to attain the goal one must shove it, which defeats the whole purpose of the exercise in the first place. And therein lies the difference. A good missionary is someone who lives the good that they believe and therefore can share their faith or experiences. A poor missionary is someone who expects others to live the good that they may believe, but doesn't do it themselves.
