In tambo that rule was very important! NO PHYSICAL CONTACT! But my doubt is, if that rule applied only to students or to staff too, because, while the students couldn't have any physical contact with each other, staff could hug, pet ,slap the rear end of the students, grab the legs..... i remember that whoever started dating in tambo, and broke that rule or the "visiting hours" rule had to read a whole book on marriage, and was punished with 1, 2, 3 weeks, sometimes more time without being allowed to talk or see the sweetheart. I can imagine how this would impact any human's life. I don't understand though, what you mean with solitary confinement..... so can't coment on it.

Solitary confinement was the punishment issue if one was caught touching a member of the opposite sex. One was allowed to go to school, otherwise it was confinement to ones room for a week (where presumeably one spent ones time reading suitable material or confessing ones sins). Second offence and one was up before the Field Comittee, or grilled in front of the whole boarding school. This of course didn't apply to dorm parents engaging in sexual crimes.

Unfortunately these rules had no relevance to myself, as the opposite gender was not into kissing frogs or ugly ducklings in my case . Of course like all good fairy stories, I morphed into a bald swan as an adult and am now happily married.

My husband and I discuss this NTM sin saga issue quite often and he made a comment that he wondered how much outrage would be demonstrated if a "secular" boarding school committed the crimes against the children of missionaries that NTM boarding schools did? He thinks the outrage would be felt from the mission board all the way down to the churches and individual members. Full stop.

(get it, Kiwis, Eagles, Magpies, they're all birds and the former of course is the nickname for a . . . well you should know by now )

We have a saying: "A little birdie told me". Here on the forums, it could be more like "A little birdie told on me"!
