My husband believes pastor/youth pastor/music minister, etc. should be held up to a high standard as the Bible teaches. He reckons the problem is with church discipline, these men/women, whoever they are, should be brought before the church in person or if they won't cooperate in name. This business of covering up for "the sake of the Gospel or whatever excuse given" is not moral or legal. Full stop.

I do know my pastor has been on this site. He and his wife have a ministry to help churches deal with abuse in the correct way. 1st always call the police and let them do the investigation. It is a crime, churches don't handle murders, or robberies, why do they think they can handle sex crimes.

There are churches that are really trying to do thing right. I have found many lay people who have not been exposed to abuse don't know it happens in churches. But when they find out many become strong supporters of the victims. But even then they need to be taught how to help victims, it is not something a person just knows.

Shary, Exactly. A church found out money was missing and the law was called in, the same church had a sexual abuse crime and the cover up began. Why so? Full stop.
