Local government....it may close down the mission, it may put a lot of people in jail.
But New Tribes still has an opportunity, after all these years, to do, not just the right thing, but the more than right thing. Go above and beyond what those around you tell you to do. Contact state and federal government, grab on to them, and insist that they investigate.

Don't settle for: we called the abuse hotline 20 years ago. Don't settle for second best.
Yesterday, we lost one of our retired Generals. He had an explosive temper. He was called "Stormin' Norman". His troops defeated the 4th largest army in the world in about 100 hours. But if you read the online posts since the news came out yesterday, the troops that served under him...they really appreciated him, because he cared about them. In fact, one captain recounted how that when he first arrived to serve under Schwarzkopf, he reported to the general's office. The captain remembers two things: a) a carving of a wooden bear in the office, and b) the general telling him to take care of his troops.

Our parents were the troops, but we were the kids of the troops, and the kids of the troops were the ones that carried the brunt of the ministry (abuse of all sorts, separation from their family during formative years, etc.). By taking care of the troops of New Tribes Mission (past/present), by extension, you take care of the children of the troops.

Larry, stand up today, cast aside the need to please Greeks and Trojans, and fight on behalf of the children of tribers. Go down today to the prosecutor's office (the Google Map instructions are posted above), and don't leave until he and/or the sheriff have started a full investigation.

When men of courage are determined to get things done, the attorneys/rules/statutes of limitation fade into the distance. IHART is paid by New Tribes. You get what you pay for. Law enforcement/public prosecutors are paid for by the people. You get what you pay for. We MK's are like people without a country or defender.........nobody gives a rat's ass, because the crimes occurred, conveniently, in another jurisdiction ((where the did the cover-up occur?)). I'm tired of the "we called the abuse hotline" bullcrap. Be men of substance, not procedure.

DDML, You are most certainly correct about going to the police, sheriff or any authority. The woman I am working with has finally done just that. She did have support via a brother in law who had been a policeman. She filed a form in the state it occurred and then her sister, who was abused by the same man, filed a form in the state she lives in and it so happens so does the abuser. It is now in the hands of officials, the best place for it to be. We have discussed this so often and my encouragement to her is at least it is on file, it won't take the abuse away but he will not go down as a hero of the faith. NTM needs to "come clean." Full stop.

When I was at Numonohi, two sisters arrived, each with their husbands and families. One of those husbands was a police officer and one became a dorm parent. I am pretty sure that the one who became the dorm parent was the police officer.
Jim Given was operating as a dorm parent and the tip of the iceberg of his offending was no secret. But despite having a police officer on the field (who I'm pretty sure was the dorm parent), Jim Given was not dealt with appropriatley and by all accounts was allowed to carry on with his offending. Yet as a former police officer there is a duty to uphold the law (IHART investigators who are retired law enforcers, are under the same duty, as per their own infomation).
And of course the question will be raised, where is the person refered too now, still with NTM according to their website.
