Missionary parents,

Don't put your kids in boarding schools.
God gave your precious kids to you.....He didn't give them to a ministry. You don't have to be Hannah in I Samuel.
They may get good grades at boarding school, come back to you smiling every time, write warm and loving e-mails all the time (little different than ham radio...."We're fine...over"), and they may go on to find the cure to cancer while studying at Harvard Medical School.
But God gave your precious kids to you.....He didn't give them to a ministry.

Raising kids is the toughest job in the world....don't let somebody else do the heavy lifting.

And even if NTM writes all the manuals on preventing child abuse that the world will ever use, even if they put webcams all over the schools so you can watch your kids day and night, and even if they put GPS tracking on all the dormparents, and even if Scott Ross dive bombs each boarding school every morning in a Kodiak with complimentary mace and stun gun packets for the students to defend themselves from potential predators.....even so, God gave your precious kids to you....He didn't give them to a ministry. Keep your kids in your house.

I can hear all the arguments and protestations, said or unsaid, coming from the triber camp right now, Demos.

But you are still right.

I remember hearing a good Christian couple saying the reason they had children was because it was their duty. Struck me as odd at the time, but perhaps it is a bit more common of a reason than I thought.
By extrapilation, if one had children because it ones duty, then it wouldn't be such a big step to put them into a boarding school.
Of course not being a parent, I'm hardly qualified to profer any expertise on the matter.

Bemused, I think you hit the nail on the head, I reckon it is a privilege to have children and a mighty heavy responsibility like DDML said as well. When we went to candidate school with ABWE we were asked several questions. I am a vegetarian and that didn't go well with people, cause you know, what if you were in Africa and you were asked to eat monkey meat and if you didn't you would offend the natives (now called nationals)? My answer was I believe God will give me the grace to do right no matter what it is, besides I am going to Australia not Africa. The next question was would you send your children to a boarding school? No, I said, I would not. How will they get their education if that was the only way? My answer, guess they would just learn from me and their dad, home schooling was not in my knowledge at the time. Full stop.

"I have no man like-minded who will naturally care for your state, for all seek their own, and not the things that are Jesus Christ's."
I believe that I began understanding as never before that this is the reason so many tribes and millions are dying without Christ.

words of Mel Wyma

Mel,

Maybe it's also the reason New Tribes failed to deal with criminals in their midst.

Who wants to bet a dollar that New Tribes still processes the vouchers for those named in the GRACE report?
Who wants to bet a dollar that New Tribes has contributed "investment income" to an MK fund, on behalf of those named in the GRACE report?
hint: don't bet

"I'll go just as far as God will let me go" was a phrase those who knew Mel Wyma heard often throughout his life. From the early years as a missionary pilot In the jungles of Bolivia South America in the 1940's and 50's, to his final days of working to recover from a stroke he suffered in November of 2010, Mel trusted, and passionately followed God.

Born on the south side of Chicago, IL on July 15, 1922, to Michael and Agnes Wyma, Michael Melvin Wyma was the third of 5 children. He "fell in love" with Jesus Christ, and accepted Him as his savior, when he was a teenager. Soon after that time Mel met and married the "other" love of his life, Connie Warner, on July 2, 1942. Together they served as missionaries with New Tribes Mission, both overseas and in leadership in the U.S. until Mel retired in 1996. They had four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, whom they raised, by their example and instruction, to know and love their Heavenly Father. In the final days of His life Mel was eager to "go home" to be with the Lord he loved, and be reunited with his beloved Connie who preceded him to heaven on May 1, 1997. However, he was committed to go the distance and accept God's timing. Mel used every ounce of his strength to share the precious truth of God's word, through his words and his life, with those who cared for him and visited with him.

A quote from a dear friend and author Dr. John White says it well, "Mel Wyma is a man obsessed with the wonder of walking with God." And that truly resonates with all who knew him.

Mel was ushered into the glorious presence of the Lord the afternoon of July 12, 2012 surrounded by his family, just 3 days before his 90th birthday. Our sadness and loss is overshadowed by a profound joy of knowing that he is finally HOME!

Mel is predeceased by his parents, Michael Wyma, & Agnes Wyma, his brothers, Al & Sid Wyma, his sister Evelyn Voldness, his wife, Connie Wyma and great grandchild Cody Wyma. He is survived by his brother, Dick Wyma, his four children and their spouses, Paul & Faith Wyma, Tim & Betty Wyma, Starr & Howard Hoekstra & Debbie & Dan Huntting, 11 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 519 S. Park Ave in Sanford, FL. at 6:30 on Tues., July 17, 2012.

In Mel's honor, a fund has been established to provide support for a radio broadcast outreach to the still unreached people in Bolivia South America. To participate please designate your gift to: "Chimane Radio-Mel Wyma Memorial Fund", and make checks payable to New Tribes Mission (1000 E First St., Sanford, FL 32771).

The parents called Executive Committee member Mel Wyma to report
the sexual abuse but were warned not to "destroy another man's
ministry." Mel Wyma informed the vicitm's parents that David Brooks
was important and needed on the field.

Matthew 6:24

New International Version (NIV)

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

It works like this, tribers. Most of the world gets up in the morning and goes to work for a salary/hourly wage.
You don't. You get up in the morning and tell people you're working a yard from hell...please support the ministry. People with two mortgages send you money faithfully every month.
If those people find out you've been harboring/protecting child abusers, they may not continue to support your ministry. You (all of you) have made a collective decision to protect your "ministry" which allows you to continue to receive money.

Would you agree that you're serving money, not God? If you were serving God, wouldn't you run to Achan's tent?
