That is right about the livelihood being risked. That is exactly what happened to us when we tried to resign ABWE but they in turn terminated us. They told us not to write our supporters until we met with them but they in turn wrote our supporters and told them we were terminated for insubordination. We have never been formally told we were terminated (this happened in 1993) as we were given a copy of the letter from several supporting churches. The livelihood issue is well and truly alive. I truly believe most missionaries are cowards and won't speak up, out, whatever you want to call it, for fear of this very thing. They hypocritically tell how they depend on the Lord but do they really? We lost our livelihood thanks to ABWE but got it back twofold. I know lots of missionaries and very few would do as my husband did and take a stand. In fact, one missionary told us he would go down with the ship (meaning ABWE). What displaced loyalty these missionaries have. What we have noticed is missionaries are more loyalty to their boards than to their churches who are paying the bills and have sent them out. This is all wrong and this is why I am not really surprised at how little support for this forum is given by missionaries. Full stop.

Only the ones directly affected can even process this and that it happened.
There is no vocabulary that they can wrap their minds around to describe what is going on if they even see it for what it is.
It's so shocking and unthinkable that people just go on thinking it "couldn't" have happened.
God is so faithful to those who stand up.
We can relate to that.
Some "Jerry Sandusky" type prosecutions within a mission could really wake people up.
As well as the publicity----which DOES know how to talk about these things.

I'll paint a scenario for you.

A prosecution occurs of a historic paedophile and it receives enough publicity that it becomes a talking point.

At this point Bemused predicts that there will be those who will climb out of the woodwork and extol their support for the actions of the "brave battlers" who have pursued justice for others. And to the top of the pile of those who climb out of the woodwork will be those who claim that somehow they can take credit for the attainment of such justice. Bemused also predicts that these will be the same people who couldn't find their voice previously to speak out, because their livelihood was threatened if they were to do so, but when the pendulum swings the other way, they will find their voice, because it will be convenient for their livelihood to do so.

Then folks, stand back for the stampede will begin. Paedophiles will be stampeding for cover, glory seekers will be stampeding to get their 15 minute of fame. Politicians will be stampeding for photo opportunities, and mission boards will be stampeding all over the place, trying to lay the blame on someone else. Bemused will not be stampeding, he'll just casually wander off into the sunset, with a wry smile on his dial and you are most welcome to join him.

Bemused, how right you are in this assessment. ABWE is already taking credit for Dr. Donn William Ketcham giving up his medical license in February. What a sham. I would give them credit if they had turned him in to the medical board in 1989 but oh no they give him all the support he needs to get settled in another job in the USA. They did not turn him in until the bangladeshmksspeak blog started. What hypocrisy! He was a pedophile but ABWE didn't let anybody know that so who knows how many other children he could possibly have abused when he picked up practicing in the USA. From what I was told he did volunteer work for illegals in America. That is scary knowledge if it is so. How many illegals are going to turn a doctor in for abuse that treats them free? I doubt many. I am not saying he abused anybody in this volunteer capacity but makes me wonder. Full stop.

New Tribes Mission did NOTHING about sexual abuse of children until the victims made it impossible to keep it quiet any longer. Now, they are patting themselves on the back for the way they have instituted investigations!

These people are in the wrong business; they should be in politics!

Then, at least, we could vote them out!

No one has to vote for NTM, so some pressures will not work.

There are some really great leadership models out there.
We have good guidance in the Scriptures if we say we are a Christian org.
We were taught, but they don't follow it.
I guess they just wanted us to do the unconditional following.

Re: The board of directors of Penn State U. They paid for a really independent investigation because, I assume, they wanted to find out what went wrong. In NTM everyone is related, if not by blood, to the incidents. So I assume because of their lack of action for the last 3 years and the many years before that--
