I agree, Demos, that the parallels are chilling, between the Sandusky story and many stories that have come to light through the Fanda Eagles website.

I have been thinking that, ever since this Penn State horror was first revealed on the news.

And have you seen this, from GRACE's Facebook site, June 22:

"Historic verdict placing all church leaders on notice that silence about abuse can result in a criminal conviction.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/2 ... 19355.html"

People with common sense are beginning to agree that not only should pedophiles be held accountable for their crimes, but those who shield and shelter them, cover up for them, minimize their crimes, move them around, and in other ways fail to believe and support their victims, instead believing and supporting the perps, and allowing them to remain free to prowl for more victims, these people too, are to be held accountable, and may even be sentenced to jail time for the part they played in allowing harm to come to innocent, vulnerable children.

Why can't people understand pedophilia is a crime? A crime against children. How would these do gooders like it if it was their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren? Wouldn't they care? Maybe they wouldn't, what do I know how people seem to think? How can sexually abusing a child be handled so carelessly whether it be Penn State or NTM? Why would self preservation be more important than stopping these people from further abusing children? They don't stop it for all their sanctimonious reasons and it just keeps on keeping on. When is enough enough? This is so very upsetting. NTM and their spin is heart wrenching. How do these "so called" leaders sleep at night? I pray they have nightmares of their evil deeds if they do sleep. The abusers (who are still alive) need to turn themselves in to the law and NTM needs to do the same. This must stop. They have forfeited any right to call themselves a ministry. They are criminal negligent and they have to know it. NTM needs to close down and they need to do it now. No, it is not about the money, but they need to pay all their creditors (if they have any) and divide the remaining assets among all the victims with a letter of contriteness. No more lawyers, no more court cases. Full stop.

Someone who sexually abuses a child is after one thing, Power. The power to control someone else. It is not natural to want to have sex with a child, for most people this abhorent, but to a paedophile it is about control and power.
So by exposing this we are threatening the power they have over others and they get upset. So we will be called: interfering, ungodly, doing the devils work, bitter spirits, destorying the work of good men, unforgiving, unkind, dragging up the past, ruining reputations e.t.c. But when you look at who is calling out these names, you will probably find as I have, that they are men who do not want their power taken away.
Therefore stand strong, speak out, you are doing the right thing and your conscience is clear and now the law is saying that speaking out is a offence that can bring a term of incarceration, even more reason to speak out.

Bemused, I can vouch for the fact that these kinds of abuse issues were kept to a very limited and closed circle. Tambo staff would be told that an action was taken, but not why, and specifically told not to ask about, talk about it, or try to find out.

For example, the above was told to staff when Rich Hines was dismissed. No explanation. It gradually became known to some through the grapevine. Several staff members found out only because their children heard about it from children of field committee members.

The leadership circle was unhealthy and did not put the safety of the children first. There were a number of amazing and wonderful staff members who had lifelong positive impact on my life and many other students' lives who were kept out of that loop and uninformed."

Actually, the Bolivian field committee was notified that that kind of abuse was happening in the name of discipline in the early 90's by one of the teachers. They were pretty shocked - I don't think they knew the full extent, that it had been going for years by different men there, only that the then principal was the one doing it, and required a discipline policy to be drawn up. I think at that point paddling was capped at five swats, but I'm not sure. At the same time, I wonder how shocked they were by it in that they made the guy director of the school a year or so later. This was the same guy who originally tried to let R Hines stay at the school and wasn't going to inform the staff what happened, only that he had had a sin issue and needed to move into a house instead of being a dorm parent and would no longer be the director, but would still be a teacher."

The timing I am aware of is ...

Rich Hine was sent back to England (without even alerting his home church why) during the 1990-1991 school year.

During the 1990-1991 school year it was reported to the field committee that the then principal was paddling kids with a wooden paddle 15-20 swats at a time, until they were bruised up and down the back of their legs and buttocks, even for minor offenses. A discipline/paddling policy had to be put in place to prevent this kind of physical abuse going forward.

Another man who had been a long time teacher at Tambo was removed from the mission while he was on furlough during the 1991-1992 school year. Nothing was told to the student body and we were told not to ask about it. He was removed based on something that happened with another adult male, but there were rumors of abuse of students going back decades.

Some time in the several years before Rich Hine was removed, there was a female teacher removed for an inappropriate relationship with a high school boy. This was only a rumor I heard from other students, but supposedly she sleeping with him and they got caught. If it happened, it was before I was there - but all of the high school students knew about it when I was a student."

The only person who made fun of me for no longer being in the dorm was that one individual, who was the principal and dorm parent at that time. He used to make fun of me for a lot of things in front of the other students and got in trouble/called out while I was a student for abusive discipline procedures. He would beat kids from middle school through high school with a wooden paddle 15-20 full force swats, leaving them bruised all up and down the back of their legs, until the field committee was informed about it. There is quite a list of inappropriate ways he ran the school, interacted with other staff, and most significantly, treated, interacted with and dealt with students."

They just got moved around.

Criminal and criminal prosecutions are still very territorial in nature.

Human beings have a tendency to run and hid when they do something wrong (Adam, Eve, Jacob, Moses). Even though the law has a long arm, if you run far enough away, the law will focus on the misdeeds taking place locally.

New Tribes understands this. They don't report child sex abuse to local authorities in countries where they operate. They know Florida, for instance, is not going to prosecute a missionary who returns from a foreign country.

It's a nice setup...........if you're a pedophile.

So, nothing has really changed.

If you read the current NTM manual, at best they will contact some contraption called a "sponsoring authority" or they might call local church leadership.

So, there's been a lot of yapping, a lot of prayers, a few retroactive terminations, a lot of ...... blah. But at the core, NTM pedophiles (past, present and/or future) are still pretty safe.

That is so wrong. Why can't NTM see sin as sin? Why can't NTM see a crime as a crime? Some sins are not a crime but pedophilia is both. Full stop.

If pedophiles were holding a convention, and they had to pick the safest organization to work for, and their choices were:

a) the Catholic church
b) Penn State University
c) 99.9 percent of the rest of the known world
d) New Tribes Mission

Which would they pick?
