judging from my experience, i would say about 5% are actively engaged in activities that have a meaningful impact on preaching the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth.
lots of activity, but little contribution to the bottom line.
in the modern age, it truly has become a wonderful lifestyle, with a recommended support surpassing the average household income in the United States (and from what i hear, it will soon be required to maintain a certain % of this recommended support in order to maintain membership).
as i heard one missionary family say a few months back when on furlough, "we don't know what we are going to do with our kids while in the U.S., we are so used to having two full time house help to take care of them wherever we go in [certain country]."
