Apparently my father meant my belly button, what this has to do with sex education, I am still wondering. As I am a product of the 60's I prefer to think of myself as "the Inaccurate Conception".

I'd hazard a guess for many of us guilt was a major component and consequence of our sex education. You are quite right in that the genders were kept apart during the brief whiz over once lightly education session. I also suspect that the versions we got were considerably different i.e. nice girls don't and good boys wait (and if you don't the doors of hell will open . . .) Most of my education came from reading the encyclopedias in the library, which luckily hadn't been censored. Strange but my mother never mentioned the "S" word at all, until I qualified in the medical field and suddenly out of the blue she suggested that I consider family planning as a career. I have no idea why and I didn't take up the suggestion.
Alarm clock has just gone off, time for the daily naval washing session.

And don't forget, if you wear those white shorts or that top that may be just a little too loose when you bend forward, you'll be causing Uncle So and So to fall.

I was actually told to not wear a top with a logo or picture, because the waves on it could reveal your size . . .and a double thickness American bra was a must, cause we don't want to be like those Brazilians.

I had to write to my grandmother and ask them to send me bras. And the whole extended family heard about the request . . .

Thinking about watching the video of the woman having a baby, still makes me feel ill to this day even though I've had four kids of my own. Visual images have that affect on me. I seem to remember it being part of an intense first aid course we did. Bemused you said you were in the medical field was this part of first aid courses in the past? Anyway it is funny but not funny about all the confusion over sex. My sister and my cousin told me when I was like 9 that boys have periods too but it's white stuff that comes out. I really believed this and adamantly told my girlfriends at school this was the case when we were talking about periods one day. I was mad at my sister and cousin for that for a long time. I got a lot of my sex education as you can see from my sister, my cousins, friends and T.V. My mom and Dad never spoke to me about sex. I did not grow up in NTM my parents became christians when I was about 6. I would hazard a guess that wether you were in NTM or not the sex education 30 years ago was probably not great in many families.

Thanks Bemused. Yes I agree about the sex education, knowledge is empowering. I probably lean to the parents being the primary teachers but I don't mind other trusted adults family/friends having a part in it too. There is so much out there now, books, internet, multi media you name it they've got it. Poor bloody kids having to deal with all this crap.
I am so hopeless when it comes to medical things. I'm squeamish, my husband has taken up the slack a lot of times with the kids when it comes to medical stuff. I really admire anyone who is in the medical profession it shows a real servant heart. Just a small correction my parents became christians when I was a baby but I don't remember much about life until I was 5 or so. Overall my childhood was pretty good. My mom and Dad did not have a healthy relationship for a long time, they were one way when we went to church but another way when we were at home. I suspect that this is not that unusual. I think this is part of the reason why I rebelled and went my own way for several years. In saying that I take complete responsibility for my own life and don't blame anyone for the choices I've made and what I've done.

We seem to be on the same wavelength. Initially my life, like most peoples, was governed by the choices of others (beginning about 9 months pre birth to be precise). But with age comes more responsibility, more choices and more responsibility for those choices. We also have a responsibility to learn from our pasts, so that we don't commit the same mistakes. In my sojourn with NTM it wasn't just the adult staff at the school that were dishing out the abuse, it was also fellow MK's, but the disturbing part of this was it was sanctioned by the principal at the time and a few other adults. I was an easy target because I was different. For me there was a choice, to abuse others in a weak position, as I had been or to start a new pattern and seek to do some good for the human race. I found the answer lay in the latter path, hence the career choice. So in a way I hope to have taken the responsibility for others poor choices in my past and made a few good ones along the way.
Believe me I am in no way perfect, as my psycology savvy better half often reminds me. As she says, "I have a few faults, but you have only two, everything you say and everything you do", (which she assures me applies to the male species in general) and who am I to disagree.
