Being a curious person, I have the odd trivial question about matters and figured if I set up a thread for the purpose of being able to ask a question, then I could tap into the experiences/expertise of others. So here goes:

In PNG we had this blue rule book implemented by the principal. The one bit that struck me as weird was the bit about physical contact between the genders in the school environment. 7 days solitary confinement struck me as harsh. Just wondering if other boarding schools had this and if it had detrimental effects latter in life. For me, I became a nurse where physical contact is part of the job, but it is something that I initially found uncomfortable. It wasn't so much feeling guilty in the clinical situation, because I realised that it was a part of the job, just touching another human was something I had never really done. The hardest thing I found was when a colleague needed a hug and I felt like a fish out of water, obviously most of my colleagues are female, but even relatives of the dying who I knew well I would struggle with. Anyone else been in a similar boat? |

I find showing affection very difficult. Put a Bible on the seat between opposite sex... Yep, that will do. My mom has complained about the fact that I don't run into the house with my arms open wide to embrace her..Affection has always been a problem |

Anyone know an old-timer they could ask how a sexual predator could be shuffled from one field to another --- TWICE! What was the reason he was sent to the 2nd field the 1st time? What was the reason he left the 2nd field the 1st time? Well, maybe it wasn't a shuffle the 2nd time. He just went back to the 2nd field years later. Not good results any time. What about the periods in the home country each time? HOW MANY VICTIMS? Maybe this isn't exactly a trivial question. But I would like to know. |

It's a good question and deserves a better reply than I can give, but . . . The Catholic Church could probably provide a good answer (large organisation that we were taught was evil and were all going to hell and taking poor natives with them). NTM has always been short of staff, so instead of dismissing someone because they might have committed a sexual crime (and it was probably just a kid who complained anyway), just move them sideways, even call it rehabilitation to add authenticity. It comes down to the principle of the greater good. The accussed can still save souls if they are kept on, so better to risk sacrificing a couple of MKs than loose them souls. And anyway who is going to believe a couple of kids, they're probably just ungrateful for the wonderful childhood they are receiving or suffering from parental seperation anxiety. Thats my theory. |

Question from left field: How does the street numbering system work in the U.S. Are odd numbers on one side of the street and evens on the other? i.e. If I lived at number 50 West Street, would my neighbours be numbers 48 and 52? |
