If Bemused had been there, he would have gotten ideas for multiple poems.

I am no poet, and right now, my brain lacks even coherent words.

So much pain. So many tears. Such long, genuine hugs. Such a bond of commonality that all of us could laugh at the same jokes or the same sarcastic comments that would have left others bewildered. Because they don't get it.

But we got it. We got it, and that's why our broken hearts just broke again, in further fragmentation.

Who will heal my broken heart? Who will dry my tears?

One MK said, what I am feeling is a deep, deep well of sadness ... and there is no bottom.

The goodbyes were excruciating.

Just like they were back in boarding school days.

Dear God .... my well of sadness ... black and deep .... help me breathe.

Unlike two years ago in Chicago, there was no media presence in Atlanta. The group of MKs and their supporters that gathered was smaller than the group in Chicago had been. This was a surprise and disappointment to me ... and it probably was to the organizers too -- the MKSN -- board, thought they never expressed it. The value that I perceived and received was so huge, and it makes me sad that out of thousands of MKs of all ages in this country, so few took advantage of this opportunity.

On the Fanda Eagles Facebook page, I have posted a photo of the timeline that was created by one of our own ... she is an amazing and creative artist. The timeline shows most of the major developments in our six-year history.

If you would like to know what the text in the blurbs says, here is my verbal timeline:

June 2009
The fandaeagles.com website was established by Kari and Bonnie, adult MKs who in the 1980s had attended Fanda, a New Tribes Mission MK school in Senegal, West Africa.


September 2009
Fanda Eagles and NTM agreed to use GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment) to investigate the abuse that had occurred at their boarding school in Senegal.


June 2010
fandaeagles.com was expanded to include a Forums section for easier interaction. Accounts of abuse began being posted from other NTM fields, and other time periods.


August 2010
GRACE released a 67-page report on abuse at Fanda, which included recommended consequences to abusers and those who mishandled abuse reports.


April 2011
At the request and petitioning of boarding school alumni and their supporters, NTM hired Pat Hendrix to coordinate investigations of abuse in its other schools. Pat called her investigative group IHART (Independent Historical Abuse Review Team).


May 2011
A lawsuit against NTM was filed by Jane Doe 7, an MK who was sexually abused in the Philippines. This suit was settled in May, 2012.

WAVY TV in Virginia broadcast an interview with Les Emory, Jane Doe 7’s former dorm parent at the NTM school in Aritao, Philippines. Emory admitted on camera to having molested missionaries’ children in the Philippines. This broadcast put a chilling face and voice to the reality of abusive staff at NTM schools.

IHART began an investigation into abuse at NTM’s school in Vianopolis, East Brazil.


July 2011
A second lawsuit against NTM was filed by Jane Doe, an MK from Senegal. This lawsuit is currently scheduled to go to a jury trial in June, 2015.


December 2011
IHART began an investigation into abuse at NTM’s school in Tambo, Bolivia. This investigation is still ongoing. Abuse at this school was reportedly extensive and horrific, with reports dating as far back as the 1950s.


January 2012
IHART opened an investigation into NTM’s Panama field. Pat Hendrix hired Pii (Professional Investigators International) for this investigation.


September 2012
A third lawsuit was filed against NTM by Jane Doe 25, an MK from Senegal. This lawsuit was scheduled for a hearing on the 13th of this month (April, 2015).


December 2012
fandaeagles.com reached two million hits since 2009.


May 2013
Warren Scott Kennell, an NTM MK who grew up in Brazil and had returned to Brazil as an NTM missionary, was arrested by the Department of Homeland Security at the Orlando airport. He was subsequently sentenced to 58 years in federal prison for production of child pornography.


August 2013
Fanda Eagles reached three million hits.


March 2014
Lori McAlister, an NTM MK from Papua New Guinea, posted publicly on Fanda Eagles about the abuse she suffered at the hands of a current NTM member, Gary Earl, in the early 1980s. An investigation by Pii led to Earl initially being required to retire from NTM. After receiving many requests for a stronger penalty (termination), the NTM Executive Board eventually required Gary Earl to resign from NTM.


April 2014
MKs from the Vianopolis school in Brazil began receiving packets of reports on the IHART investigation findings and the consequences NTM would be giving to their abusers. Almost nothing was revealed publicly by NTM or IHART about the investigation results, but MKs began sharing their reports on the Fanda Eagles forum.


June 2014
Fanda Eagles had received 4 million hits in the five years since its inception.


July 2014
NTM’s Executive Board received Pii’s final report on the investigation into MK abuse in Panama.


November 2014
NTM announced that Pat Hendrix was no longer the coordinator of IHART. She was replaced by Theresa Sidebotham, a friend of Scott Ross, who is legal counsel for NTM.


December 2014
Pii (Professional Investigators International) was terminated by Theresa Sidebotham, the new IHART coordinator.


January 2015
Theresa Sidebotham announced on her newly-launched IHART website, that Pii did not include leadership culpability in their report, so the completion of the Panama abuse investigation will be delayed.


February 2015
Fanda Eagles reached 5,000,000 hits.

Love you back, Bonnie!

Loved meeting Bonnie and Kari for the first time. They are even greater, nicer, funnier in person. Love meeting up with NTM MKs from our last conferences. Love all the others who came. Loved the speakers who were there. I felt loved.

Still crying in my spirit for the many who shared horror stories. Encouraged to see how far many had come on their journey since the last conference.

Yes MKSN was disappointed there were not more there. But each one there was worth a conference all on their own. With the smaller number we really got to know each other. I feel a deep connection with each one there. Thank you to each of you who came.

It was a privilege to be there
To learn
To meet others
To see all the different greens in the GA woods
To eat all that lovely fruit!
Yes, it was grand
And sad all at the same time.
