This is the real hero of this sorry saga, in my opinion!

Oh if only there had been Tribers in my childhood who had been this brave, but alas there was not. Imagine if one brave adult had hit one of the child molesters in full view of their fellow Tribers and hit them really hard, oh it would have sent a very loud and clear message. "Oh but you're condoning violence, Bemused and we can't do that" I hear the fundamentalist uproar, "after all we were delivering a message of a peaceful god and He wouldn't approve".
"Rubbish" is my answer, Jim Finnamore (school principal) informed my parents that violence was o.k., as long as it was directed at a non American (i.e. little Bemused), "because that is how American society works". So I grew up in a closed community where there were few places to hide, knowing that any American MK who felt like it could beat the living daylights out of me and get away with it and if I retaliated, their parents or friends would be down on me like a ton of bricks. Oh but it gets much worse. I was also the victim of sexual assault for the very same reason. American MKs were not put in isolated situations with known predators, but hey presto it was fine to put the little Kiwi MK in with one and so I got to put up with sexual assault and there was very little anyone would do about it, because my life was worth less than the predator and as Jim Finnamore summed it up "he'll just have to get used to it"!
But I never got used to it and I certainly didn't become a predator myself (as some predict we victims become). It hasn't ruined my life, perhaps on the contrary, after all "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".

So in a courtroom many miles away, someone finally did what the cowards of my past should have done. And if they had, it would have saved a lot of heartache and broken lives.

Yes, good for this father! He did what any good father would - or SHOULD - want to do! I am glad the judge did not press charges. This Nassar case has been riveting. I do hope it raises awareness in our society as a whole. Many things about this case remind me of what happened to children in NTM, and how evildoers got away with it for so long.

I am so sad about all the terrible things that were done to you in PNG, Bemused. The amazing thing is the way in which you have conquered and thrived.
