That is very interesting, but my Dear Three Willows, mention the word Catholic on Fanda Eagles and it goes strangely quiet (claim based on personal experience). Is there the remote possibility that those years of listening to derogatory lectures about the "evils of Catholosism" still cannot be totally exponged from deep consciences? This is the Prime Minister of Ireland, he holds the top job and therefore what he says is listened too. Ireland is not some tin put backwater country, one of its major exports over the centuries has been people (due to the potato famine and then a poor economy), so this has an international connection. He has had considerable courage to stand up in a country that is 95% Catholic and really get stuck into the Catholic Church over it's appalling record of Child Abuse. So where is Prime Minister Kenny or even more interesting who does he talk to? But then Pres. Obama is to busy to worry about child abuse in his own country and missions e.t.c. right? Not actually true. One Bemused has a letter from him acknowledging Bemused's concerns about the lack of justice in the matter of NTMs paedophiles still not being incarcerated and being covered up. This is old news I know, but worth rehashing. But of course politicians don't act on info from nobodys, right? Ummm, possibly wrong again. One Bemused wrote to the top politicians in Australia several months ago, two weeks latter the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Child Abuse was suddenly widened from just the Catholic Church to include the Protestant institutions also (remember that letter from the leader of the opposition, Tony Abbott, reprinted here). Coincidence? or did they take notice of a nobody who doesn't even live in Australia? And the point to this is what exactly Bemused? It is in the title of this thread, "We Should Follow Their Lead". Australasia is moving against Child Abuse, now the Irish are moving. Time to kick a few more countries politicians into action. This excellent speech won't have gone unnoticed in the world of International Politics. So there are 50 States, with 50 Govenors, 100 Senators and even more Congressmen/women, most of whom have not heard yet. Time they had the message shared with them, time they knew that the world is moving against Child Abuse in religous institutions and they are going to be left behind unless they act quickly. And one last point. If the Catholic Church can get its act together and look at its woeful past, so can NTM, after all weren't we told over and over, we were far better. The Catholic Church now has a new broom (the speech by the Irish Prime Minister was before the advent of the new pope), who looks like he is going to act on Child Abuse. We can sit around and hope and pray and twiddle our thumbs while we wait for our missions to find a new broom that might get round to making real inroads, or we can start sweeping ourselves by putting the issue in front of those who have the real power and asking, demanding, pleading that they do something before the next generation is abused. One last thing to do. Get a world map. Put a drawing pin in Australia and another in Ireland. Now draw a line between the two. What is sort of in the middle? Clue, big country, very powerful, lots of MKs live there. So at one end Bemused is moving in interesting ways to get the politicians to wonders perform, at the other end the Irish government is doing the unheard of, taking on the most powerful Church in the world and in the middle, God waits, or does He? |
