Feet up, TV on, watching Brazil play The Netherlands in the consolation final.
I have a friend who is a fellow soccer fan and he is backing The Netherlands to win, so I have backed Brazil. Figuring after the disgrace of their last game, losing 7 - 1 to Germany, the threat of being hung dung and quartered by their fellow countrymen will spur them on to perform much better.
Alas my more divinely connected friend is already ahead by one and I may have to eat humble pie
I saw the preceding formalities to kickoff where a little child came out with each soccer player and stood in the middle. That would be something those children will never forget, getting to be on the world stage with their heros and imagine the photos.
Reminded me of those photos years ago, with our "heros".
(The Dutch have just scored a second goal and I am beginning to despair)
But the "heros" so often were badly tarnished and I disposed of the pictures years ago, because I wanted the memories out of my head.
(And now it is half time)
Getting back to the soccer. I have predicted to my learned friend that Germany will win against Argentina 2 - 1. However I forgot to factor in the nationality of Pope Francis. (interestingly the last Pope, who retired, is German).
I shall now put my feet up and watch the 2nd half. If Brazil loses by a big margin and Argentina loses tomorrow, I may have to go into therapy and be gone for some time
