It is a very accurate quote. Sometimes we stick with what we know, even though we know it is damaging us for far to long, because the alternative appears to be worse, that being having no one to cling too. Have been there done that.
It is often a hard lonely road turning ones back on those in ones past, especially when they are related, but sometimes it becomes the only road on which sanity can be preserved. And each day, after the initial period of feeling isolated, the wayside flowers seem more vibrant and the air clearer. Then one often finds others on the same road and that makes it so much easier.

You are well on your way. You've taken the hardest step and seen what the past is and where the future can be and made a choice to make a break from the complacency of the past.
