Also, some people are not signing because they think we are insinuating that the Mission is ignoring the problem and trying to keep things "in house" in order to control the effects.

I have heard, via the grapevine, that the Mission is working on all this. However, we, as MKs, have yet to hear anything concrete from anyone that we have contacted as to what they ARE doing and HOW they are doing it. Couple that with the fact that the mission has lost credibility with MKs affected by the abuse and its cover up, I think we have reason to be concerned!! Plus, we have heard very little from anyone with the power to do anything!!

I think THAT is the reason behind the petition--to ensure that we are being heard, whether we hear any kind of response or not.

Again, people, if the mission is already doing what we are petitioning for, then GREAT--they will know we are in full support. If they are not there yet, then the petition will hopefully NUDGE them in the right direction!!

I want to thank Mrs M for organizing the petition. I signed it because this is a way to show collectively, clearly and quickly that we want outside, independent investigations done and also to continue to raise awareness that sexual abuse happened in the past and is probably still going on today in NTM and definitely within the church as a whole. Sexual abuse needs to be confronted and defeated. I agree with the point of hardening the target. We need to fight to make it hard for sexual predators to infiltrate NTM and the church. People who are or call themselves Christians must realize this will not be tolerated, it will be exposed and prosecuted.

Having said all that I want to support the leadership and praise them for the efforts they are making. You are not going to motivate them to continue in the right direction by bashing them every time you think they are not doing things the way you want or as fast as you want. It is frustrating. I did not quite agree with the way the petition was worded. I agree with the comments made in regard to this, that is why I did not post it on my fb page.

I am more than happy to give Kari the administrative authority for the petition to change if she wishes. I do not own the petition. I headed it up because people wanted something done and I wanted to show my support. Which I still want to do.

Kari, very well said. And yes, that point of view is a scary one, considering.

I signed the petition with no hesitation at all. To me, it couldn't have been worded any better! The point isn't that we necessarily agree with every word, but, rather, the message that the petition is trying to convey---which is, to let NTM know, it is not acceptable to try to solve anything internally, and we insist on an outside agency to investigate.
Again, THANK YOU MRS M for doing this for all of the MK's, who have suffered so much at the hands of this mission!! God bless you!!

MrsM, again, I hope I get to meet you in person someday and thank you for all your support. I love the petition and am not discouraged by the response but I have had two years of dealing directly with NTM and did not have as high of expectations as many who are new to this.
