It's a tough decision...to engage parents or not. Not sure there are any hard and fast rules, just depends on the situation of each family. There are many situations where it is probably for the best not to 'go there', but that's hard when you feel you need some answers or explanations or just want to have a close(r) relationship. I would think that losing a relationship with a parent or both parents (or other family members) would be yet another loss in a series of many for MKs who already had a rough time on the field...

I am thankful that in my own case, I have been able to keep an open relationship with my mom and while we don't always see things the same, at least we can talk about it and it's usually ok.

That is wonderful, AnotherMK,.. I don't have that. It isn't talked about and no questions have been asked by my parents. They have never asked me what I went through. It is sad, I think. I sure didn't treat my daughter's abuse that way. I WANTED to know and I have wept for my innocent 7 year old that was sexually abused in a NTM school. I continue to weep and try to help all. over

We are here to listen and learn and
We engage with our kids.
We are appalled at all we have heard
And at what went on that we didn't realize
On the field.
That's why we stick it out here
Supporting as we can.
We left NTM because of all this.
Instead of ending up with no place to go
Life has been amazing since then!
Others should stand up for truth and try it.

There are MKs down here who don't know where there parents are, if they are even still alive, its been that long and the mess that bad.

That is really sad!
