I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this...but I find the whole missions challenge to children thing a bit sick (as per the web link from Aussue). Children are children. Let them grow up and make their own minds up PLEASE and lie to them then. Honestly given NTM's track record with looking after children in their boarding schools none of them should be going near children. This really makes me cringe and if anything is more evidence of a cult (get them while they are young). I bet they take a little collection from the kids as well....sick.

I remember as a child being told constantly "you must see the good in other people". Alas other people only reffered to people like us (whatever that means), anyone who didn't fit into our narrow world of religious belief was subjected to denegration and ridicule. And so I grew up with mixed messages. We were supposedly representing the God who loved everybody, but we didn't like those who didn't do it our way. And there was no alternative offered, all other alternatives were "of the devil".
Not that I expected a smorgasboard of religion and philosophy to be offered, with the offer "O.k. Bemused, which one would you like to pick", but a message that there was much good in the many faiths with which we share the planet, would have added credibility to the claim that the one I'd accidentally tumbled into was actually pretty good.

And this is a major part of why I didn't have children of my own. I just didn't want to inflict the confusion that I grew up with on another generation. Of course by time I got it sorted out in my head, I was old enough to be a grandfather, but apparently the joys of grandparenthood are not bestowed upon one, unless one has actually procreated one generation closer.

Like 22years ago, I'd feel uncomfortable with letting children be "challenged" into mission work. It's a momentous decision for even adults to make and one that it is now apparent many shouldn't have made.

Oh well, that's my 2 cents worth.
