The fandaagles website has allowed me to look in the mirror. Grandpa Taylor, Dad, Mom, Aunt Carleen, Aunt Beth, Uncle Ken, Aunt Kay, Uncle Graham (actual uncles and aunts.....on both sides of the family) all went to Bob Jones.
Most of the first 20 years of my life were spent on a mission base or school...operated by New Tribes. Most of my favorite memories from my childhood happened in the company of people connected to New Tribes.
Has New Tribes/Bob Jones has had any impact on the way I think, act, breathe, walk, relate, raise children, work, view African-Americans, view Obama, view life in general, view people?
I went to Bible school with Sharon Ames. She married Steve Sanford. From the picture on the NTM website, God has given them a beautiful family. Steve's dad was at Jersey Shore when my parents were in training. Sharon's dad was at Bob Jones when my parents were at Bob Jones.
Who am I to point the finger at Bob Ames? Who am I to point the finger at Michael Sullivan, who literally saved my life on May 16, 1988 by getting me admitted to Foote Memorial Hospital?
If God was able to do a mighty work amongst 120,000 people in Ninevah, who couldn't tell the difference between their right hand and their left....if God was able to help 2.5 million people escape the most powerful military in the world, by crossing on dry land through the Red Sea, if He can take the most powerful man on the planet and make him live like an animal, and then after 7 years restore Nebuchadnezzar to the throne, if He can heal a woman who had an issue of blood for many years, then He can certainly accomplish great and might things in our midst, bringing tremendous healing in family relationships, bringing tremendous hope in the midst of despair. Perhaps God wants New Tribes to end....today. Perhaps He wants us to post here incessantly for another 70 years. Perhaps He wants me to shut up and focus on my wife and children. Perhaps He wants me to learn to love others more, to be forgiving instead of judgmental. Perhaps He wants New Tribes to go bankrupt and all its leaders to go to jail. Perhaps He wants a missionary like Steve Crockett, a 2nd generation triber from PNG, married to a second-generation triber from Indonesia, to stop, and reflect, and call his brother-in-law Tim Whatley, and together examine the material here at fandaeagles.com. Perhaps He......He's not very loud, and doesn't send a lot of text messages, but He loves all 7.1 billion of us, and He cares for all 7.1 billion of us in ways we may never know, and He wants us to be confident that the good work which He began in us.....He's gonna continue it until the day His Son comes back.
