Where is God in any of this? The God who apparently loves us so much, yet all we see and hear is lies, cover ups, empty promises. God can't be backing New Tribes Mission, that would make no sense.

What Bemused says is awful, so most of us will just ignore it. But what if he is right, what if the next family to hit the headline is some nice NTM family that everyone thought was just a little eccentric and there they are just like the Bain family, dead. How many hurt, angry MKs are out there? How many are so frustrated that they can't afford some nice therapist to deprogramme them, that one day they don't just loose the plot and go for revenge.

I hope Bemused is wrong, but I know and if any of us are really honest we all know, it is only a matter of time before someone loses the plot big time and in a country where anyone can own a firearm, I'd be very afraid of how badly they might go off.

Aussie I know what Bemused says is true. From Mamou there have been 5 or 6 who have killed themselves because they just could not go on. Not all with a gun, some with a bottle, or other means. There was no help. I just cry when I think of the many who don't want life. All because people not Christians, even if they say so, ruined their lives. I am glad for those who have found their way through the darkness of abuse. But there are still hundreds struggling, with depression, homelessness,lack of jobs, etc.

If you are struggling please don't give up contact some one on this site who cares. I will listen and I know there are others who will also listen and encourage you. You are important, you are valuable just for being the unique you. Here you can express your uniqueness. Bemused does so much to encourage people's talents and shares his own. Is there a way to put pictures on this site? I would like to see some of the art work people have done here. But if not here there is a FB site we can put pictures on. I spent over two decades in a field where I often had to make the phone call to someone I didn't know and say "I'm truly sorry, but you need to come to the hospital now, because your loved one has had a serious turn for the worse and we are doing our best, but it isn't going well". These were generally middle aged to older patients and very few I now remember from the many. But the one I will never forget was a young patient who took her own life. That was the hardest one and the one I will never forget. Her grandma sent me a picture of her with the words "she always thought you were a cool nurse, because you listened to her", someone still had to make that phone call though.

Shary is so right, if your mission doesn't want to know you, your family has gone and the inside of a church is a scary place. We are here. We are not perfect, some of us don't even have enough faith to believe in God, but we have a pretty good idea what nightmare you are going through, because we've been there too. None of us wished to be here, but here we are. Hoping that no more phone calls are made with the terrible news "please come quickly, we are working on them and it is not going well", because then it is to late.

Oh complete rubbish about being a massage therapist and somehow that gives a wider scope of acceptance. I'm a nurse and if a female patient needs something of an intimate nature I find a female nurse to do it if I can, my female colleagues will never place me in a position that is uncomfortable or inappropriate for either myself or the patient. If I do not have a suitably qualified female colleague who can complete the task, I will if I have to do it, but I always have a female staff member present, even if it is the cleaner.
On the other hand I often handle male problems for my female colleagues, an arrangement which works fine.

Victims are people and need to be treated as such. Paedophiles on the other hand are monsters and should be dealt with as such. It's really that simple.

Oh and yes there has been cases down here where MKs won't speak out to substantiate the accounts of another colleague. Sotime times it is fear, sometimes it is family loyalties and sometimes it is pressure from parents to keep quiet. It has really hurt some MKs who I care about when this happens, especially when they hear the old favourites, "you need to stop being bitter and get over it" or "you will ruin the reputation of . . . ".

Yes being a message therapist does not give you liberties to touch people in ways that are not appropriate for those without the same training. I find it strange that they would even bring up such a thought when their teachings about contact with the opposite gender are so strict for teenagers. But this is also common in many fundamental churches.

As far as other MKs not speaking up when they are witnesses or even victims themselves for the MKs who do report I am not surprised. It has been happening with the Mamou crowd for years. One because he was a high up in the mission talked about actually being abused but will not support the abused Mamouites. He might lose his job. Then there are those who became missionaries with the same board and don't want to jeopardize their life style. Yes many missionaries have a nice life style, travel, servants, often no checks on how time is spent, respect from churches, the list goes on. The question why people will not substantiate others is a puzzle to me. It doesn't fit what Christianity teaches.
