As in "steak and lobster?

Yes we have lobster, although we tend to call them Crayfish.

Trouble is I don't like seafood, so alas no lobster on the menu.

How about corn on the cob?

I'd like to have another guest at my table. Someone who I much admire. Alan Alda.

I listened to his audio book a while back as I tramped in the rain and really enjoyed his outlook on life. Of course most of us remember him as the unforgetable Hawkeye Pierce in MASH.

Occassionally the question arises of the appropriateness of humour around the somber subject of Child Abuse and I find a good analagy is the series MASH. It was a war that the characters found themselves thrown together in. Conditions were spartan and they came from diverse backgrounds and with possibly the exception of the inept Frank Burns they were there to do the best they could, given the situation they found themselves in. Yet what we remember the series for and its enduring popularity was due to it's clever use of humour, somehow it seemed to work despite the bodies, the injuries and the depressing prospect of a never ending war.

So there we go ladies and gentlemen, my guest list is now complete. May I present to you, Sir Edmund Hillary, Mr Cat Stevens, the multi talented Rolf Harris, the eloquent Bill Clinton, the comic genius Alan Alda and my mystery guest.
Dinner will be a selection of fine New Zealand wines, with Char Grilled Kangaroo as an entree. For the main I have prepared a Pad Thai with Cashew Nuts and for desert some good ole Apple Pie. Pull up your chairs and listen to some of the finest talents this world has had priviledge to host, discuss their perspective on life and their achievements as we share a sumptuous feast and just for a moment immerse ourselves in a world far away from the reason we are drawn to this site.

Oh, that sounds delightful! What a great dinner party you would have!!

I too love MASH, and you are so right about humor in the midst of tragedy. I know that for me, it helps me keep my sanity, and maintain my equilibrium. Bad news sometimes comes thick and fast ... I cry, and then something (someone) makes me laugh again.

And so I keep going.
