Thanks for this report, Shary. I am so glad you got to attend the Penn State conference, and that it was an opportunity for you to speak out about child abuse occurring even in mission communities. Yes, it is serious, and yes, it is time to hold Christian organizations accountable for evil in their ranks, including the evil of covering up abuse, hiding abusers and ignoring the needs of victims.

We will continue to remind our readers about the MK Safety Net conference in April. I would love to see a significant representation from the NTM MK group there!

Matthew 5:25

"Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison."

All you fellow Bible translators out there in Triberland: is this verse still in your Bible?

Maybe some of you are still using your Scofield KJV's, so here's your version:

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison."

Oh, and here's another verse, same chapter, still in MY Bible:

Matthew 5:40:

"And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well." (NIV)

"If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also." (NASB)

Skip down to Matthew 5:42 ... same context, about how Jesus Christ -- God's Son, our Savior -- asked his disciples to respond to those who sue them, compel them, or ask them for something:

"Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (NIV)

"Give to the person who asks you for something, and do not turn away from the person who wants to borrow something from you." (ISV)

I cannot wrap my mind around how NEW TRIBES MISSION, an organization I was a part of for almost 50 years, and thought I knew so well, can justify using attorneys and slippery legal tactics to evade and avoid making things right with THE CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN MISSIONARIES who were grievously wounded on the battlefield while their parents sacrificed their all for the cause.

HOW CAN THIS NOT MATTER to all of you who are still members of this mission???

HOW CAN THIS NOT MATTER to those of you who support this mission with your prayers, finances and moral support???

How can this not make your head explode, like it does mine??

I am incredibly fired up about this. It's hard to even find the words to describe how wrong and unjustified I think this response to the needs of MKs is.

New Tribes Mission, you have lost your way.

You have lost your way, and you don't even realize it.

What I learnt as a child was that there are certain Biblical truths that cannot be broken. To my amazement as an adult I found that these could be completely disgarded by the same people, if they needed to justify their own position, or just to put an errant MK in their place.
So my dear Raz, everything is for sale, there is no absolute truth, it is self preservation without even a whiff of faith in God.
And how embarrassing that a Sympathetic Agnostic would seem to have more faith than those who have to hire lawyers to inflict more hurt on the innocent.
Shame, shame!
