When I wake up in the morning and I read the exchange between two people such as this, I think life is o.k. That is a lovely analagy of this journey being a bike ride (complete with Bemused's dog and if you haven't seen the picture you've missed out on one cute dog).

Word of warning Raz, if you are going to get on the back of that tandem, you will have someone on the front who can cover 101km in 3hours and 39 minutes. That is moving, especially if the dog is on the back. Oh and you'd better hope he hasn't been eating curry before the ride .

I'm laughing, Aussie! That is a wise warning indeed! Especially because I know Bemused and I share a love of Thai food! (Their curries may not be as potent as Indian curries, but I do love those too!)

Gas prices continue to rise. Maybe we should all try eating more curry, and then bicycling instead of driving a car!

Just to clarify any misconceptions. Bemused's time of 3hrs 39 is respectable, but hardly earth shattering. His fastest time was 6 years ago, when he did it in 3hrs 15. The fastest time was 2 hours 34, which is flying (check out Graperide on Wikipedia for a good desceiption of the event) was set by a professional rider.
Bemused did not have a dog on the back for this race, Leo is his training partner and they get around on a hybrid bike, which is better for the state of the roads here. Leo does not go on the racing bike, he has far more taste.
As for riding the tandem with Bemused, Indian Curries, Thai Pad Thais, or Mexican Beans, you are welcome, mix in sweat and he's all yours.
