One more thing, Paul Flaming (love the name, BTW (as we say in my circles)), did they still play that tape when you went through the training, of that old-timer reminiscing about the founder of your mission?
And did you crack up, like I did, when he intoned, "And when Paul Fleming died a fiery death on the slopes of Mt. Moran, God said, 'Well done, thou good and faithful servant!'"
Well done. Fiery death. Get it?

Lest anyone think I am being irreverent about a great man who was highly motivated by an intense passion for the neglected tribal people of the world, I hasten to say I am not. On the contrary, I believe that that man would be deeply grieved by what has happened in and to the organization he founded.
He would not even recognize the New Tribes Mission of today.
I never knew Paul Fleming, but I did toddle around Fouts Springs Boot Camp, so I think my perspective on NTM reaches back a long way.
