Ummmmmm, hate to show my ignorance, but my legalise is not that good. I presume that one side of the legal action is worried by the behaviour or potential behaviour of the other side and asked for some sort of protection measure. Anyone with a considerable better understanding of these proceedings able to decipher this for me .

lawsuits are a matter of public record
sometimes parties to lawsuits wish that some aspects are kept private (trade secrets, for instance)
they ask the judge for an order that keeps certain material from entering the court record, or if entered in the clerk's file it is kept under seal, or keeps an opposing party, who has access to it through discovery, from disclosing that material or information to third parties

having said that, I have no clue what has actually been filed, so the above may not apply

Lest we forget that there is still an ongoing lawsuit against NTM.

I have bold-faced the newer entries since this case was last posted here.

It looks like Jane Doe will be giving a deposition a month from today. Over a year since the lawsuit was first filed.

Perhaps we could illustrate this with a little example:

I have a dog, a lakeland terrier, who is a great companion. However the terrier component of his name gives a clue to his nature. Now as you may well be aware, the city where I live has had a series of earthquakes that have devastated the city and greatly disturbed those that survived. But have a look at this:

Apparently according to this, I can blame my dogs misbehaving on the quakes and the aftershocks. While I might get a little sympathy for my plight if my dog bites a child and I end up before the dog ranger, it ain't going to be much. Because I am responsible for my dog. I feed him, exercise him, socialise him and keep him under control in public. I can hire all the pscholigical experts in the world to explain that my dog has been deeply traumatised by siesmic activity, but it doesn't change the fact that I am responsible for the behaviour of my hound.

Which is the position NTM finds itself in, some of the missionaries working for them have "bitten" children and there is no excuse. Now some of those "bitten children" are taking lawsuits and that is fair enough.
When my dog does you know what in public, I have a bag handy to scoop up the offending matter immediately, before someone steps in it. This should have been NTMs policy too, don't just leave the mess for someone else to clean up.

There are some basic rules to owning a dog:

Don't have a breed that is dangerous out in public.
Muzzle a dangerous breed of dog when it is out in public.
Never leave a dangerous dog unattended around children, especially if the child has food.
If the child says "the dog bit me", investigate the claim, support the child, don't just say "the dog must be innocent, because it is wagging its tale".
If you own the dog, you are responsible for its behaviour.
Even cute dogs can bite, if not trained properly.


And the rules are similar for missions.
