we have saturday and sunday church nowadays. and pick your time of day. my how things have changed.
since we are all praying, then this must be the opportune time to lay out the weekly "unspoken" prayer. as i recall, more unspokens were offered than real heartfelt communication. since leaving ntm i don't think i've ever heard of such nonsense as unspoken list for God. must have been part of the non-transparency. do i have a second on that?

I think you you are making a great point. I have thought about the awkward "unspoken" requests too ... such an odd thing, and there were always plenty of those requests! Of course, it reflected the lack of authenticity in our group, the lack of transparency and safety.

Now I wonder how many of those "unspoken" requests were a plea for help in unhealthy and abusive situations that people found themselves trapped in ... not only MKs, but some adults as well.

Oh yes, I remember the "unspoken" requests. Not only was there the lack of transparency to make these requests so plentiful, but I believe there was some warped thinking about God. I believe God does care about things in my life that may seem trivial and small to you? For me though, another reason for the unspokens I gave was I didn't want to be PM'd yet again for wrong thinking. And very possibly as already mentioned, I believe there were many unspokens because individuals couldn't share about abuse going on.

I believe many "unspokens" were due to the fact that trust was just not there. And why would there be???? I trusted no one....! So, it seems that the "unspokens" validated that leadership was not to be trusted. AMEN if I do say so myself!!!

And to Aussie: You sure know how to make a point!
I enjoy your "right on" comments.

The poor response on the part of some missionary parents to their own children who are in great pain and in need of support and understanding still bothers me a great deal.

Because of that poor response, some MKs have chosen to go "no contact" with their parents.

Here is a good blog post about the backlash a person may receive when they choose to set those kind of boundaries.

Thanks for posting that. It is not an uncommon phenomenon down here, quite a few of us have little or no contact with our families.
For some of us we lost touch with our parents while in NTM, the desire to please the system came before the family, despite being told over and over that family was very important. It was only important that we maintained the appearance of a happy family, so the support would come in, no questions would be asked and the illusion could be maintained.

In my own case I made the decision to go it alone. The opportunity came up and so I took it. It has proved to be the correct decision. Now the only means of communication are written and I do not have to reply to abuse and threats.
