I can definitely see what you are saying, Aussie, if that's what was meant by what was said. I guess I tend to give the benefit of the doubt, and think there is a miscommunication here. Too right - we need to be focusing on dealing with the abusers and preventing future abuse. Yes, Bemused, there were some who became dorm parents because no one else was available (nothing against your parents, I'm sure they were great) - causing huge damage to the children. One of my dorm parents - I think his one qualifying feature as a dorm parent was that he could cook (used to cook at Holiday Inn)...wow, not something to go on when looking for someone to take care of children! A few years ago PNG actually closed all the dorms down because they didn't have anyone properly screened and trained to be dorm parents, and they did this even though there were some missionaries offering to be dorm parents (not accepted because they didn't qualify) - good to know some things change!

You are so correct. It was the reign of the three Jims. The other being Jim Harris, a lovely caring funny man, who despite his physical illness soldiered on in his quiet gentle way. I believe he is no longer with us, more is the pity and the others are (no comment).
I agree, some of these offenders are very easy to find. Open up the resthome, send them downunder, we will sort them out for you. It will be our pleasure to help, believe me. They won't do it again after a while in an Aussie jail, nice religous types who abuse kids don't walk in a straight line after the other prisoners introduce themselves to them. None of this slap over the wrist with a bus ticket, my mother didn't feed me enough carrots nonsense, if you're found guilty of child molesting, it is going to be the beginning of your nightmare, you will probably wish you had never been born!
