This gives me encouragement, I know the prime minister said it wasn't going to be just a Catholic inquiry. Maybe Australia will get the ball rolling for other countries, wishful thinking probably. Full stop.

No, the only way other countries will see anything like this, is if their citizens demand that their politicians follow suit.

And there is very little a couple of humble MKs from Downunder could possibly do to influence other sovereign countries, for this would be akin to the interference we saw in the Free Tom Randal facebook campaign. And being MKs of honourable and good repute, we would not stoop to such interference.

However if our MK colleagues who are citizens of countries that would benefit from such an inquiry as has been instituted by the Australian Government, were to apply pressure on their own respective judiciary, political and law enforcing establishments, we will of course be only to delighted to render whatever support we can to assist them in their brave endeavours.

Bemused, Interesting, I am a dual citizen so also a U . S. Citizen and would be willing to write something to somebody but not for sure how to go about it. Full stop.

Always go for the top and then work down. So that would be President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Leader of the Senate, Leader of the House of Reps and so on.
Remember Bemused wrote to President Obama about the child abuse issue and got a reply, so it is not a waste of time, cuz Bemused is neither an Australian or an American!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's always worth a go. I have an amazing collection of correspondences and replies from all sorts of people, from very prominent people, to experts in some aspect relating to the issue of child abuse. Very few are hostile, the only hostile ones are from those who have things to hide and don't like being poked. Some replies have been truly moving.

As for what to write, it's simple, just write from the heart, our biggest asset is that the truth is what we are dealing with.

Going to the top is a great idea. I think letters coming from another country are also a good idea. Reporting that a person or organization abused someone from another country may even get more attention. Thank Bemused for your courage.

Yes, yes, yes. You are right on. Turn it into an international incident, make politicians squirm because the last thing they want is a friendly government asking them why their citizens are being abused.
Those of us who have been here for a while and been paying attention know that this tactic has been used very successfully.

So how many non Australians have written to the Australian Inquiry to offer support and point them in the direction of NTM (excluding Kiwis of course)? Not many at all I bet. And why?

Why? My opinion, for what it is worth, is people plain just don't care. That is what my mum would say when things went wrong. Her mum was killed by her second husband in 1946, the year I was born. He was an American Indian and was a mean drunk. She got a divorce from him in May (a great feat in those days) and he killed her in June by hitting her in the head with a sledge hammer and then setting the house on fire. Their 3 sons pulled her out of the house but she later died. After the divorce his lawyer talked the judge into letting him stay in one end of the unfinished house giving him the perfect opportunity. My mum was living in Arizona with 5 children of her own and tried everything, every branch of government to get help for her mum, she said, "He will kill her and they just plain don't care." That is just it, "they just plain don't care." These abuses have been going on for so long and exposed long enough and yet here we are. Yes, I see this as a no winner. Look at Woody Allen and tell me there is justice for those abused. I think not, signing off as I have just about had it, can't even imagine how the abused must feel. Full stop.
