I was hoping you could enlighten me on that one. I've seen my own father before government select committees ranting about the evils of what others do in the privacy of their own home. Yet when he finds out what his former colleagues did to innocent children, he says he doesn't care. It makes no sense to me at all and even less sense that he is just one of many who have done the same thing.

This is not normal, it's not even human! Somedays I feel so disgusted by the whole sorry mess I just want to pack up and wash my hands of it all. But then if I did, would I be in some way partly culpable too, for not speaking up for those who cannot or won't speak.

Exactly right This is not normal or human. All animals are programmed to defend their offspring, it is how each species survives.
Except the species New Tribus Missionus, who have evolved to such a high level that they feel their own offspring are expendable so that they can leave them to fend for themselves while they convert other lesser evolved species to their way of thinking.
I hope the species New Tribus Missionus will soon become extinct and we can look back shortly and say it was because it had evolved with a big flaw, it didn't care for it's own offspring.
