This is very interesting. While most paedophiles operate in secrecy, PNG had an unusual case in Jim Given. He bragged about his activities. Even as a naive teenager I knew what he was talking about having done was wrong. If as a naive teenager, I had the brains to figure out that what he was describing and obviously doing was wrong, how many adults knew? Quite a few, it was common knowledge. And how many did anything about it? Very few. And what happened to Jim Given, he was shuffled around, just like the Catholic church did for their paedophiles.
So according to this decision, there will be some worried PNG missionaries.

Where are the stateside victims of the pedophiles (maybe many more than 2) we know are here now?
This could get interesting.

Jerry Sandusky and William Lynn were turned in by their own organisation, which hired an independent investigator, who appointed investigators who gathered informantion that was then compiled into a report, from which recommendations were presented to the organisation these gentlemen came from, and these recommendations were acted upon in such a manner that convictions resulted?

Somehow I doubt it. I'd hazard a guess that the victims initially complained to the organisations that had these gentlemen as staff, got no appropriate action, then went over their heads to law enforcement, who dealt with the problem through the judicial system.

The case of Jerry Sandusky gives us hope that justice can be served, but we need to continue to be proactive and demand it.

The decision in the William Lynn case, asks us is it time to start compiling lists of who served on Field Comittees, Executive Comittees and were School staff? Someday, someone is going to ask, now might just be the time to start coming up with the answers.

On a personal note. Jim Finnamore told his students that he had the power to make us do what he wanted, because he controlled our destinys. Dear Jim, I wrote to you personally and politely gave you the chance to explain your involvement in this child abuse scandal. For several months I have waited for a reply. Now it would appear that the power has switched hands and your destiny is now slipping out of your hands and into the hands of those with the might of the law behind them. May your god have mercy upon your soul.

Diane Langberg, GRACE board member, has some good thoughts about the Jerry Sandusky case and lessons we can (and should) learn from it.

That is a very well written article. If one took out the name Jerry Sandusky and inserted many of the men that I knew as a teenager, the article would still be accurate. That is scary. Even more scary is that other men are still actively covering up and denying that anything ever happened, for these men. They won't even consider the possibility that abuse occured, that the MK experience was a nightmare not a priviledge.
