It is said that the Asia Pacific region attracts 3 types of Europeans....Missionaries, Mercenaries and Madmen. NTM provided/provides the perfect backdrop for many of societies misfits. As you may have realized already it is particularly difficult to differentiate between these 3 groups on the mission field.

Imagine those genuine people who sold their homes and gathered support to got out on the field with NTM. It was a lifetime commitment in those days. You were required to provide your pedigree and submit a list of financial supporters to the NTM to insure you weren't going to be a liability.....hahaha...just realized...that was the ONLY thing they checked out. How lucrative you were. With the green light you were given some sort of indication as to where you might be placed. If you were judged to have a more healthy/secure income and could be of some benefit to the “inner circle” and NTM you were given a placement that was likely to be less soul destroying and isolating than others that were considered “lesser beings”

Imagine after all you have gone through to get to the mission field you arrive to find there is no more brotherly love there than on a cotton plantation in the South before slavery was abolished.

How on earth do you tell your supporters and family you have made a terrible mistake?
Those who had not been able to adjust to the social and political changes in the USA found solace in joining NTM.

I am not speaking of those genuine individuals who also wondered what they had struck on arriving
on the mission field. Although it appears that it was largely non Americans that suffered the biggest shock.

The “founding fathers” of NTM had been born of generations of racists. They knew how to “handle the people” all wrapped up in the Bible. Nationals and Non Americans became the new “lesser beings”. They knew how to wear you down, isolate you, keep you tired and alienated. (SOUND FAMILIAR?) I guess it was a case of if you can't beat them, join them for so many.

Generations of NTM continue to return to NTM like so many in a controlling abusive relationships they don't know how to survive in the outside world. As with the military, NTM's break down and rebuild as desired policy has had the desired result.

Not what I recall the disciples doing. What happened to church planting? Are the national christians not considered up to the task or are they still considered lesser beings by NTM? Somehow NTM forgets to move out and move on after their ministry is established...after however many years.

Perhaps it has something to do with the 'Business' they have built themselves over the years.

NTM also stole our family home. We built the home required by NTM...used our own money, money gifted from family and support money. When the racism and behavior of NTM became too much to tolerate we wanted to leave. On approaching the board we were basically told “Tough!”
All wrapped up in the Bible that they so often hid behind …...such a godly lot NTM!

At least the Catholic Nuns and Priests understand taking a vow of poverty meant/means that the church would TAKE everything from them. What's the saying ''Alls fair in love,war and business''.
Trust me people....it is a business.....that is costing more and more to run.

Perhaps NTM's founding fathers looked across at their Catholic cousins at the Vatican City and said ''Brother, we got to git ourselves a piece of that pie!'' …..and so they did.


I am a believer...yes...you are surprised. Now that we are not in NTM we are allowed to tell the truth.

We have to wonder where organized and controlled religion such as this is going to take us in he future. Particularly after creating so much damage hidden and justified by Gods word.....history repeating itself once again.

People are looking for the genuine and loving nature of Christ, not a wolf in sheeps clothing.

We have a phrase that has become popular with travelers when visiting
the natural wonders God created throughout the world. Perhaps NTM should take note.

I can't for the life of me understand what you are saying but I do believe it. I was an American, well, still am I guess, but I never had that attitude toward anybody. When we left America the black people were just Americans but when we went back many years later for a so called furlough the black people became Afro Americans. I just couldn't get my head around that as I just considered them Americans. This whole mindset of classes of people make me so angry at NTM. What were they doing going to the far reaches of the world to bring the love of Christ when they had no love to give? I don't expect an answer but it is just so confusing. I realize not all missionaries with NTM were the same but it sure seems like it was the majority. We have several books by creationists who so plainly explain how we are all one and of course the Bible tells us that and I am sure most NTM staff and missionaries read or have read their Bibles. I might send NTM in Sanford, Florida these verses.

I really do believe for the good of all that NTM should close down, reimburse whoever and compensate the victims of the vile deeds of NTM. Full stop.

Yes, I do believe that at one time there was a policy that private housing became the property of NTM when the owner resigned or was dismissed from the mission. This was a general policy, for Americans too. I do not know what the present policy is.

Policies and rules in NTM have risen and fallen over the decades. We could make a long list of poorly-thought-through policies invented by all-male authority groups. Most of the policies change: some sooner, some later. But not before affecting a significant number of people, including MKs, who feel bewildered, and often very hurt, when they hear the pain or frustration in their parents' voices when such matters are discussed.

From my vantage point now, I am very sad about the way NTM affects the children of the missionaries who serve in it. They are the silent bystanders, the collateral damage. They did not ask to be placed in missionary families, and far too seldom does anyone ask, "How are our children doing?"

"You did not pick your place of birth" takes on a poignant new meaning in this context.
