It Could Have Been One Of Us

In a field not that far away
Is a family all neatly in a row
And on top they've put soil
Where flowers gently grow

Three were teenagers
Two their parents dear
They all died early one morning
Shot from range very near

Wall to wall media coverage
Never had there been such a crime
A family who had been missionaries
All but one dead before their time

And the one left
Served 13 years for their demise
So what led to this tragedy
The breaking of family ties

It all came out in court
Dirty laundry we've all heard before
Just we've been lucky
It wasn't the gunman at our door

Yes! It could have been one of us
Our families dead upon that day
For we are only just
One disturbed person away

Angry men, sons or fathers
With something to hide
Hurt, angry, alone
And only a band aid applied

Yet all seemed sort of normal
Being eccentric is not a crime
Till out came the dirty laundry
Going back years in time

May there never again be a field
Where a family lies in a row
And flowers gently sadly remind
This is where one missionary family did go

I feel somewhat guilty for banging on about this case. However it happened in a little country where even the police are not armed and mass murder cases can be counted on one hand. So this really shook the country and still does. It would be understandable if this was a drug dealing gang related killing, but it was a respected family who were good missionary folk.
Then when you read or hear what came out in court, it all sounds very familiar and for MKs Downunder the warning bells go off very loudly. Throw these ingredients into countries who have far more MKs, better access to firearms and incidents like Columbine and the question I think we should all be asking is "where are all those damaged young men now?" and the scary thing is, the answer is far to often "we have no idea, where they are physically or emotionally".

No, don't feel guilty about reminding us of this case.

Your concerns are valid.

I myself can think of more than a handful of male MK abuse survivors who are angry and potentially explosive. They are absolutely capable of hurting themselves, or those around them.

This concern is not overblown at all.

Greetings! I'm just popping in to say hi...I am not in a position to be checking in very often, but have enjoyed catching up a bit this morning. This thread is touching, sad, funny...thanks, Bemused, for continuing to share your words. Don't apologize for reminding others of the Bain case, it is quite relevant and scary to think of the potential for more violence.

Where is the little native girl
Who's eyes were brown and bright
Heard the kind words of Jesus by day
And was abused by the speaker at night

What of her parents and the tribe
Featured in some issue of Brown Gold
Betrayed by having awful images
Taken, traded, sold

Does anyone at Headquarters care
Or is the concern just for reputation lost
Just another day at the office
Avoiding the fallout, at all cost

Did anyone even ask her name
Or is this just victim 1001
Another reason for a spokesperson
To create another line spun

The good works of the mission
Will be trumpted for faithful to hear
Not how yet another missionary
Brought not love but horrid fear

And this may be the only place
Where the little girl's welfare is even raised
A little girl trying to makes sense of life
In a world confused and dazed

What of the little native girl
Who's eyes were once alive and bright
Has any body bothered to check
Is she o.k., is she all right?

Very good poem Bemused.

The last line is touching and sad and unfortunately we know the answer to that will be no.

It has been no for the many MK's lives damaged.

Wow, thanks Bemused.

Very powerful.

The little tribal girls have been heavy on my heart ever since we learned this detail a few days ago.

Yes, if we truly care about the victims of childhood sexual abuse, then we need to care about any victim anywhere, no matter what their ethnicity, race, economic level, or country of residence.

And I do care.

But how do we make New Tribes care Raz?

That is the billion dollar question.

With all the abuse over all the years they have had ample opportunity to care. But alas. Nothing, nada.

They say they are Christians, read the bible, save the lost etc.

But they have no heart and no conscience.

How can you have a soul if you have no heart and no conscience?
