This long article is worth reading. Please click on the link below. This, my friends is the type of long and futile effort we are attempting. Most of the crimes committed against NTM MKs happened overseas, and they also happened long ago. New Bethany was a home for troubled girls which was in the state of Louisiana. It was affiliated with the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist church. Even in this New Bethany case, a grand jury has decided not to indict the man who raped and molested many girls, because of how long ago the crimes occurred. The statute of limitations is something we keep running up against, and so did the adult survivors of abuse in this home. http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/201 ... rt_m-rpt-2 Some quotes from the article: "If he had been indicted for just one thing, it would have been justice for so many people," said Simone Jones, a 47-year-old police dispatcher in Kansas who told police that Ford raped her in 1982 or 1983. "Why does this man continue to walk free?" The grand jury decided that the crimes they described were not prosecutable under current law. "The reason given in the short-term was not that the grand jury didn't believe us. It was because of the statutes," "They let us down again," Halter said. "I can't understand why it's OK for these people to do what they do and walk away like nothing was done wrong. It's like laughing in our face all over again. What is justice? When is enough enough?" |

A strong groundswell of public opinion would change this situation, after all many other countries have no such statute of limitations. The problem is that offenders are well protected by their large powerful organisations and victims are not. Publicity about such cases is a good start, it discredits organisations that have a history or hiding child sex offenders and although naming and shaming individuals doesn't necessarily put them behind bars, it sure doesn't make life comfortable for them (unless they play the "poor me, I'm a victim" card) and no tears on that one. |

I understand that Florida is another state with outdated statue of limitations views. This has affected NTM MKs in their pursuit of justice, as NTM's headquarters is located in the state of Florida. In my opinion, there should be no statue of limitations in cases of child sexual abuse. Theresa Sidebotham and Martin Nussbaum would apparently disagree with me. See pages 10 and 11 of their article, which has been frequently mentioned in this Forum. http://www.rothgerber.com/files/10368_A ... Market.pdf |
