GRACE's independent investigation of Bob Jones University got back on track in February. GRACE has now released the statement linked below. The investigative phase is completed, and they hope to release their report the end of August. I find this document fascinating in the ways it contrasts with the information we (don't) receive, and the way GRACE expresses themselves. They set a very high standard .... one which is not being met by those handling the NTM investigations. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Godly-Re ... 3896480483 http://netgrace.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... e-2014.pdf |

Yes, I definitely noticed that. And I'm sure that when the report comes out, it will be public, name the abusers, and, to the extent necessary, detail the abuses. Certainly quite a contrast from IHART/NTM's "investigation". |

Very straight forward and simple without all kinds of convoluted jargon. |

Today GRACE posted an explanation of why their final report on Bob Jones University is being postponed. Once again I am amazed at GRACE's compassion, professionalism, sensitivity, and communication skill. These are REAL people, who understand REAL life. They have a depth of empathy that is so refreshing. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Godly-Re ... 3896480483 Bob Jones Investigation Announcement – Postponement of Final Report It is with a heavy heart that GRACE announces the very difficult decision to postpone the final investigative report’s delivery date until late November/early December of this year. Late last week, we informed the leadership of Bob Jones University of our decision. As the GRACE team was completing the investigative phase last spring, one of our team members learned that his father suffered from an advanced and aggressive cancer. As the team began drafting the final report in early June, the team member’s father underwent major surgery, hoping for a full and complete recovery. During that time, our team member was the primary caregiver for his father, and he also continued, fully committed and engaged, in drafting the final report. In the past few weeks, the father’s condition took an unexpected downward turn, and recovery looked unlikely. At that time, our team member decided to completely step back from the writing process in order to care for his father. This was a difficult decision, but one that the GRACE team fully supported. Early last week, we decided to postpone the publication date in order to give our team member and friend the necessary time to address this difficult family emergency. During the early morning hours of Sunday, August 10th, the beloved father of our team member passed away into the waiting arms of heaven. Though we deeply grieve with our dear friend during this difficult season, perhaps he put it best when he recently wrote, “The Lord has given, The Lord has taken, blessed be the name of the Lord. Dying in Jesus is gain.” Though none of us anticipated or wanted a delay, every GRACE team member contributes insights that are absolutely critical to complete this historical process with continued objectivity, thoroughness, and excellence. A publication date of late November/early December will provide sufficient time for us to accomplish this process. Please know that this delay is not due in any way to actions or inactions of Bob Jones University. The BJU leadership has responded to this difficult announcement with understanding, consideration, and professionalism. In October, GRACE will post an update that will outline the final report’s delivery and public release. This update will also provide a specific date of release. We realize this announcement will be extremely upsetting for many who have patiently waited for this final report. We sincerely apologize to each of you. We hope and pray that this delay will best serve those who have participated in this investigation by ensuring a comprehensive and exceptional final report. Back to work… The GRACE Team August 13, 2014 |

An update from GRACE regarding their report on Bob Jones University. Now expected to be ready for publication in mid-December. Of particular interest to me is a modification in their process. "The report will be delivered to a small group of Bob Jones University officials for the purpose of identifying alleged errors of fact." Perhaps this addresses one of the objections I have heard from NTMers about the way GRACE handled the release of their report on Fanda. It shows me that GRACE is open to modifying their process, and makes me wish, once again, that NTM had not lost trust in GRACE to investigate other abuse situations in NTM boarding schools. I wish we could turn back the clock and do this differently. With GRACE. ![]() http://netgrace.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... r-2014.pdf Bob Jones University Investigation – October 2014 The GRACE team has been working for the past 3 ½ months drafting the Final Report and Recommendations of this independent investigation. The collaborative effort of the team in compiling and synthesizing the data collected during this investigation has been both challenging and very rewarding. We are confident that the final product will be thorough, honest and fair. The Final Report and Recommendations will be completed by the end of November. Shortly thereafter, the report will be delivered to a small group of Bob Jones University officials for the purpose of identifying alleged errors of fact. BJU has committed to maintaining strict confidentiality during this process. GRACE will have complete autonomy to accept or reject any alleged errors of fact identified by BJU. The sole purpose of this initial review is to increase accuracy and minimize any minor factual errors within the report. After completion of this short review period, the Final Report and Recommendations will be published on the GRACE website. We anticipate publication no later than mid-December. As we come to the end of this historic journey, GRACE wants to express our deepest thanks and gratitude to the many individuals who have provided us support through your encouragement and prayers. We are also thankful for the cooperation of Bob Jones University. Though there were certainly some challenges along the way, we appreciate and respect the institution’s commitment to complete what was started in January, 2013. Though we anticipate varying reactions to the Final Report and Recommendations, it is our prayer that it will fuel healing in the lives of many and positive and constructive changes in the life of Bob Jones University. To that end, we look forward to watching God at work. The GRACE Team |

Some high ranking officials might go to jail if the whole truth were known. Here's a good discussion, Allbetter. What do you think? |

For those following GRACE's investigation of Bob Jones University, this is a highly interesting blogpost by Camille Lewis, a very articulate BJU alum: http://www.drslewis.org/camille/2014/11 ... stigation/ The most fascinating sentence in this post, to me, is this one: "BJU is deathly afraid of a federal investigation." This brings to mind other matters we've discussed here on Fanda Eagles. Especially investigations into historical abuse being conducted by governments in other countries, such as Australia and Great Britain. Maybe the day will come when we in the United States will see a federal investigation into abuse committed overseas in decades past, in boarding schools run by mission organizations all over the world. I do believe mission organizations would be deathly afraid of such investigations. Just like BJU is. Hmm .... ![]() |
