Agents: Missionary admits to sex abuse against children in Brazil

ORLANDO, Fla. -
A missionary from the Sanford’s New Tribes Mission faces charges of child sex abuse, and investigators said he also took pictures of the acts.

Warren Scott Kennell was arrested at Orlando International Airport after a flight from Brazil.

According to documents from federal investigators, agents started looking into Kennell because of a tip involving online child pornography sharing.

Two pornographic images were found on Kennell’s computer. He admitted to detectives that he was the one depicted in the photos abusing girls.

Kennell admitted he molested four children while in Brazil, according to agents.

A New Tribe's spokeswoman said a note was distributed internally about Kennell's arrest.

The communication said in part, "We are heartsick that children have been victimized. While we are trying to confirm whether there is a connection between the accused's personal actions and our organization, we have put the accused on immediate leave."

Kennell was booked into the Seminole County Jail. His arrest is not the first of someone involved with New Tribes.

In 2006, a part-time instructor, George Goolde, was charged with molesting two boys.

In 2008, a youth pastor faced charges of child porn possession.

Two years later, victim Kari Mikiton, spoke about abuse suffered at the hands of New Tribes employees.

In 2011, a woman sued New Tribes and claimed she was raped several times by a worker named Leslie Emory. In an interview with WESH 2, Emory admitted to abusing girls in the Philippines in the 1980s and 1990s.

I find it interesting that whoever gave the tip made sure to give it to American authorities so that he could be arrested when he stepped onto American soil. Verses having it exposed in Brasil to New Tribes and having Warren just dismissed from the mission board and made to leave the field. Something that should have been done to other missionaries. Just sayin.

On past experiences we know NTM would have just sent him home on "medical furlough" after he said the right bible-based words and promised never to do it again. They may have then shredded a few more documents (we know they have a shredder and know how to use it).

Like the post above, I think there will be more than 4 abused children. Look at the pics on his website, he traveled a lot. But they got him and before he was able to spend the summer helping out a day camp run by his church (as he said on his web site). Please NTM do not believe the words of a paedophile....if you haven't learn't that from the past then, well, you are beyond help and hope. I already think you are, but that's just my opinion.

If anyone reading this is thinking of joining NTM then please stop and think. Do some wakey wakey exercises and read this forum and wise up to the truth.

I am not sure if I believe this. I was in Ntm 22 years and really feel the only reason I heard about the Fanda abuse from the mission was because the mk's from Fanda mk abuse blog had sent out a letter to all of us in Ntm. Then Ntm mission started talking about it to us members. I seriously do not believe that the underlings working in Ntm now have heard about this new criminal. Unless the mission has suddenly decided to be a little bit transparent with its members.
