Thinking about the gremlins tonight: small little secret beliefs/fears that keep us from going all out

Do you think that the reason that there is not more outrage and more definitive steps is that we don't really truly believe that a missionary would still abuse?

These are some emotions that we can relate to:

Being overwhelmed
Feeling not good enough
Feeling delighted with a bit of evil on the side
Wanting to control
Wanting a release from oppression, pain
Having such a fear of a different future that it immobilizes you in being somewhere you shouldn't be


But maybe this is over-identification. After all, if we were, hypothetically, in a situation in which we were so out of control as to be permanently damaging children, the right thing for someone to do would be to to remove us from situation, and put controls out there to protect others. If this was a family member, would you want them to continue? Of course not.

I think time and distance is our enemy. We tell ourselves that things are different now. It's also hard to keep an issue in the forefront when it's not in our everyday realm. And that is bad for the missionary children of today.

My sister never received a copy of the report.
Obviously I never will.

Congratulations to New Tribes Mission and their lawyers. Enron looks very stupid. Can you imagine how much money General Motors could save on recalls if they did some CYA seminars at 1000 E. First Street? If only Richard Nixon had called New Tribes Mission. Imagine what a better job the IRS could do of deleting e-mails if only they called the Macon Hare Memorial Document Destruction Office located at 1000 E. First St., Sanford, FL

This is why some people don't like ntm very much.
This is why some people couldn't stand to be a part of ntm for one more minute.
It really does appear that people inside ntm don't know how to think.
The Lord leads in practical ways.
Doesn't the record of ntm over the last 65+ years regarding pedophiles
And various kinds of abuse speak loudly enough?
The proof just builds and builds.
And gets ignored and ignored.

Thank you, Cagey_Mango, for your post. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my inquiry about the letters of contrition.

I hope there are many New Tribes missionaries who will read your post, and in particular, these words:

"Hopefully other schools will have better results from their investigations. Via's was a bust. A joke. But it was a victory for NTM."

This, in my opinion, is the measure by which we should determine what value, if any, there is in these investigations.

If they provide validation, help and healing to the MKs who were abused, then they are worth the time, the money and the emotional investment.

If they don't, then what is the point??

New Tribes Mission, you have the opportunity to make some significant alterations in the process, so that the Panama MKs don't experience the same disappointment in the investigation into their field and their school.

It is not too late! Please take heed to the message expressed by Cagey Mango!

Please do not repeat this process in the same disastrous way!

No more busts! No more jokes!
