Do you ever get a phrase stuck in your head? Something popped out of a book or article--you like how it sounds--you think about it? I ran across the phrase Deep Domaine Expertise awhile back. Here's an internet definition: Used frequently in the technical arena, this refers to the expertise a consultant possesses in a particular area. The term "deep domain" just adds that extra emphasis, that this person doesn't just know what they are talking about, but they really, really know what they are talking about. It can be intimidating to talk with you guys, knowing that many of you have deep domaine expertise, have worked through years of abuse allegations, of mission work, of theology, of whatever it is we end up talking about. But today I also had that frustrated feeling of knowing something, of having something to say-- but not having the right position to talk about it. It wasn't the time or place, so I walked away. There are undoubtedly areas that you know a lot about . . .stuff we talk about here . . .or should You just haven't had the right segue . . . Please help us out here--what do you feel we should know?? What are we missing? |

YOU aren't missing much of anything, Allbetter! I had to dust off my dictionary to read this post, so I'm a little hesitant to reply. Let's just say that everyone you meet knows something you don't know. No one knows, or can know, everything. We can all learn from one another. And should do so! I stand in awe of the Fanda Eagles and those brave souls who have posted here. It's been humbling, educational, maddening and embarrassing to cruise through these threads. Remember, the deeper the experience in one area, the necessarily narrower the experience will be in other areas. I've met brilliant linguists, to pick a random example, who have almost encyclopedic knowledge of hundreds of unrelated languages from every continent on the globe. But know nothing of relating to people, the ones who SPEAK those language. Keep it up! |

It's quite a simple equation really, it goes like this: Child Abuse is wrong, even criminal. Therefore letting ones conscience dictate how one should combat it is the solution. Being creative and using ones talents is just the icing on the cake. And having others to help and support is the decoration on the icing on the cake. Thinking that Child Abuse is justified or can be excused due to various circumstances takes far more convoluted intellect and an abdication of conscience. Trying to defend it is taking a shovel and digging a deeper hole for oneself. Having a network of associates to help defend the indefensible, just digs a bigger hole. |

Did you hear about this, last year? It's just like we're talking about--abdication of conscience, moral licensing, ugh! http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/the-ghos ... entpage=-1 It's too long to post, sorry! |

Yes, Absolutely Horrific! Yes, Absolutely Believable! And Yes God should be helping us, them and whoever else! Because we've heard variations of this before, it's the same old theme. Women and children horrifically abused and reports of it put down to "flights of fancy of the female mind", by males who think that women are stupid and inferior, just as their fathers thought that. The world is waking up to the fact that abuse is rife in religious communities, especially those that isolate themselves. And it will go on until men stop thinking they have the right to control others and are superior to others, or other men force them into reality! |
