Do you think they're in the "oh, shit" mode?

This is how I've seen it played out--

1). You've been in tight spots before and you prep for it
2). Get a bit of legal advice cause they say you have to
3). Mention it in prayer circle time. At the end, when everyone wants to leave. And only when certain people aren't in the prayer circle that day. Nosy people.
4). Get the collaboration of people who always agree with you.
5). You look back at past accomplishments . . .ahhh, yes, "I am a right and good person. I am a faithful servant of God."
6). To feel even better, you forgo wings and eat tuna. And do an hour of exercise. Yes, I'm strong, and competent.
7). The first hit comes . . .order is still being maintained. Phone calls answered, emails responded to, . . .working on not being defensive . . .then the second, and third!
8). Key staff are leaving. Protocols? What do they matter?? Who cares about the emails, the phone calls? We're talking survival here--
9). Pump up the remaining staff people with the extra money from open positions. Let them know that only they, can help get thru this . . .there will be rewards . . .you are my heroes . . .
10). Personal agendas are ok as long as you stay. Small dishonest deeds are overlooked. Any hard, deep questions are thrown out the window. Staff members that were to bring extra sensitivity into the situation find their skill set unappreciated.
11). It's OH SHIT time--anything goes.

Hmmmm, could it be the constipated mode?

Nothing is moving except the occasional bit of gas that has a strange odour. The truth laxatives aren't working and some MK from who knows where and his ragtag bag of accomplices keep finding old familiar faeces with that endoscope.

It was just a phrase to me, Bemused! Such a literal mind you have . . .well, you can call yourself an old fart if you want to . . .

I have a stronger impression of IHART than it seems others do here.

I think they did a thorough investigation. If I were them, I would be feeling the same frustration many of us are feeling with NTM at this point; IHART can't force NTM to do anything. They can investigate, reveal information, and present it to NTM with a suggested course of action ... but ultimately it's on NTM to act. We've already seen through the documents posted here that NTM virtually rejected or downgraded all of the recommendations; that has to be enormously frustrating. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but they should follow the example of Bob Jones University, hold a press conference, and throw it all out there for the world to know! Instead, they're not informing supporters or churches and minimizing it to their own people.

I hear you Aussie and Bemused and feel our guilt.

For me, I cringe when I think of these remembered events:

1). Gorging on brownies and ice cream--spending a tremendous amount of time baking and preparing foods worthy of any stateside potluck event--getting together frequently with other missionaries--then doing nothing to alleviate hunger in the church, and disregarding any distress this might cause the nationals to feel as they watched us do this . . .

2). Only seeing new Christians as to their potential for church growth . . .leadership qualities, education levels, tithing abilities . . .if they made the grade, they got a lot of attention.

3). Taking national's sacrifices for the church as a given . . .demanding time given to the church, despite their jobs, their family obligations

4). Romance with a national was the one event that could derail the whole mission

One small point that is not small.
Did i-hart not take a stand in their contract with ntm
as far as the outcome of the investigation being equally available to
the victims and ntm?
It appears that ntm "owns" the reports and can do what they want with them.
Up to and including not releasing them to victims who reported.
So some survivors are not receiving their reports?
The reports are not complete reports?
The victims themselves have to piece together the story from the bits and pieces they do have?
This does not sound like the outcome that was hoped for.
