I am so deeply saddened when I read the letter NTM sent to its members. I don't think they could have minimized the abuse anymore than they did, and to top it off they added insult to injury by making sure their members know there were happy memories of Via. So what. That's like saying the victims of a concentration camp had good memories of the nights when it was warm enough they didn't suffer hypothermia while sleeping.

I know it's not much consolation, but if *I* were in charge of NTM, I would be weeping and wailing and gnashing my teeth at the horrendous abuse so many of you and your children suffered. I would not even be able to go on as a mission until this whole stinking abyss was taken care of in a Godly, forthright manner. I hope all of you have at least one person in your lives that support you whole-heartedly and stand behind you without question.

There are changes happening in ntm.

We are just not seeing this.
We did not see it in 1997.
It is noticeably absent now.

Perhaps the same legal team is carefully wording the apology that NTM offered to any MK who provided their contact details to IHART and that I graciously accepted.

Call me cynical, but I don't think the offer is genuine, because the reply I got from Pat Hendrix was an incompetent fob off, when eventually I got one after e-mailing twice and mentioning it on this forum (which seems the only way to get through). The cc to Larry and co has had no reply.

Maybe they're casting lots to see who's problem I am??

Of course I set the terms that NTM apologise for the racial abuse that was dished out liberally in PNG, which opens a whole can of worms that I doubt NTM wants to go anywhere near.
But when you have MKs being taught that dark skinned people are inferior because it all relates back to Noah and the flood and parts of their brains missing and missionaries who openly state that the abolition of slavery should never have happened, there was something seriously wrong! Throw into the equation that interracial relationships were banned until the 1980s, with exceptions being made for non U.S. personal and Kiwi's began to ask why on earth some of their more esteemed staff had bothered to turn up on the field. But then it was pretty obvious, the locals were treated very badly (including reported beatings) by a select few at the top of the pecking order and it was all some perverted power trip. And those who spoke out paid a heavy price, which of course was the Kiwis. No other group was forced out of PNG in such disproportionate numbers and to the best of my knowledge no other group had their homes and possessions confiscated when they did!

I doubt Pat Hendrix will want to get into this issue, because NTM doesn't want to go anywhere this issue. So I can rant away till I'm blue in the face on this one and it will get very little response.

The picture I'm getting is that unless you are one of the victims who was interviewed as part of the investigation, you will get nothing at all from NTM. Except for NTM USA members, then you will get vague statements about "misconduct against minors" and information about meaningless "punishments".

Yes, I think that is a true picture, Jerry.

And "victim" would be as defined/identified by them. I personally have come to feel very strongly that there are actually thousands of MKs who were abused in NTM, because I now see that being abandoned in a boarding home by one's parents at age 6 or 7 is abuse, being brutally beaten is not "discipline", it is abuse, and how many MKs were emotionally and spiritually abused? Most of us.

But out of the 60 people IHART says it received statements from regarding abuse at Via, how many have actually received reports? Just a handful. And if DDML is right, even his own sister, who was clearly a sexual abuse victim, has not received her packet of papers from IHART.

IHART is either being incompetently run as an "independent" entity or is being competently run by NTM's legal masters as a "non independent" entity.

I can see no evidence to prove any other option.
